I am so ticked at BJUP. I just dumped 500.00 on their stuff and had to put out more. I ordered their grade one Bible subject kit. You get the TE, SWT, and SE. You also get tests and answer keys. They list other items that are nonessential, but nice to have, and I skipped those. One of those things was a CD of hymns. I thought I'd already know the hymns in the lessons, you know? Well, NOT! i had to order the stupid CD after all. The lessons so heavily rely on the hymns that there's no way to get around it or substitute something else. Now I'm worried about all the other 'nonessential items' in the catalog that I passed on. I sent them a nasty -gram and their reply was that the music was printed at the back of the TE. Whoop-de-doo.. if I could read music! I'm entirely disgusted with them. To me, the tests and answer keys are far less important than the CD, since they hymn is so relied upon in the lesson. If this is how a Christian company does business, I'll order pagan next time.
I have that Bible Curriculum. I didn't have the Hymn CD and had never heard of any of them. I'm poor so I just made up a tune to some of the songs and substitued a different one when I could think of one that fit the lesson (rare but it did happen a couple of times). the whole thing didn't work that well for us because Sami hates singing as part of lessons.. I don't know why but she gets all upset. I always wondered why they used such obscure songs. I'd rather Sami learn ones that she can sing in church with us and actually understand then what they all mean.
Amen! Do you agree that they were dense in excluding the CD from the kit? I think it's just another way to make a sale. I was reading the Math1 TE today and right off the bat the lesson refers to the flip chart, another nonessential. People, if it's nonessential don't call for it during the lesson. I will not order one more stitch from them, so I'm also going to have to improvise. This galls me to no end, because I think it's dishonest.
What is their return policy? If I was that unhappy with it I'd return it and say...thanks but...no thanks. There are TOO many curriculum providers now adays...kwim?
Yep...I would see about returning whatever I could. If it can't be returned (which I would question that, too!) Maybe you could sell it...Ebay or let some of those "lovely" homeschool groups, that so warmly welcomed you, know you have material to sell. Sorry it has turned out this way! What a way to start off the new school year!
Yeah, they're right, I think I'd return it also! There are so many curriculums out there, many REALLY good ones, for WAY less than $500!!! A Beka does that same thing too, which has irked me in the past!
I agree with everyone return it. To many out there to stay with them. Wow 500.00 for one that's alot. Becky, there many others out there. Good luck let us know what happens.
Sweets, I think you got took. Did you do this kind of thing for Kindergarden by ordering a "kit" and was totally unhappy????? Its not to late to return it.
No, Amy, last year her stuff mostly came off the net. Wait- yeah, the Calvert stuff was a big flop and I did return it, you're right. To return to BJUP the return must be approved, and I would pay the shipping to return it. I really laid them out over this- I actually called them deceitful. That's how I feel, like they tell you 'here's this complete kit. the other stuff is nice to have but don't sweat it.' Then you find out they lied and you must indeed order more stuff. Bait and switch, huh?
You guys have to realize that Jeanne needs to do more things this year and that's one reason the bill was so high. I also used less off the net and that ran it up. I've been thinking of posting her science on a flyer in the grocery store, because the book is so less hands on that the science off the net we used last year. My husband just shook his head when I told him, lol.
Oh, I'm sorry for you. My hubby would've just shook his head, too. I hope you get it all worked out. BTW, I can't remember who it was, but she said something like "We use such and such Bible" then the next line was "And we know you wouldn't". I think the last line was meaning "we know you wouldn't order from pagans". LOL, I think that was what she meant, not that she knew you wouldn't like her Bible stuff. This might be unwelcome right now after having already ordered the curriculum, but I just thought I'd mention that for Bible lessons, we just read the Bible each morning. We talk about what we read, sometimes we look at maps. I never keep it entirely academic, but it's more "fact" related than the evening devotions Sam does with them. Anyway, I hope that's not like lemon juice in a paper cut. That's not my intent. Just in case you get to return the BJU stuff, though, it's a cheap yet meaty approach
I got it when the local Christian school closed down, me and a friend got first pick of all their stuff for a donation only. It never even occured to me that it didn't come with the CD I just figured the CD was lost or something! I agree with everyone to return it. That book needs the CD and it should have been there. I really hope the $500 covered lots more than that book!
Oh, the 500 + dollars was all her stuff except social studies and health. I won't return anything just because they want to approve returns and I have to payt to ship it back. I'd rather post at the grocery store or in the local free paper we have.
okay so 500 for the whole thing, that's a bju price? Wow, but they do have a lot of good stuff still don't they? If you are keeping it you need to get peace about that sis, and find good things to think on in it. ( you know whatever things are good....) Ad for Alpha Omega Bible I really like theirs! It is so good that when we chose to teach Bible ourselves one year ( Me being a bible study writer and teacher Lol) my kids actually asked if they could get a AO book set next year! they give you teacher guides and kids books for 70 or less per grade. Not sure how that adds up to some of the others but it starts with basics and gets deeper into study as you go! My older ones did a servey of the bible one year!
I hear ya, re being mislead. That would totally bug me too. So you need to decide which one you will do, how much would it be to send it back vs the lack of peice and thinking of how they manipulated you in the process while trying to teach the lessons, or will you be able to get through it and teach with excitement? know what I mean?
Oh, my frame of mind is 'Phooey on them'. I'm just so disappointed in a 'Christian' company doing this, and I wonder how much I've yet to discover as I plot out our first week? I'm taking the time to get familiar with the TE's, etc, so it all goes smoothly. Nope, to send it back would be to spend even more and I'm not willing to do that.
