Becky, I may have used an older edition which didn't rely so much on a CD. I was checking something for my sister and saw that they've put out a third edition for K5 and several of the early elementary subjects. I remember a few hymns, but not so many that it was a daily thing or that the lessons depended on them.
I used BJUP one time and never used it again because of the same issue. I got up having to get the "not so needed extras" and dropped over $800. Never again! It was my first year hs and really didn't know better but now if it comes to having to get "extras" I find out what those extras are and if I can make them myself or use something else that is cheaper I do it that way. So now instead of spending $800 per child I dish out about $200-$300 for the whole year. Sometimes it is nice to have all that just right there on hand but I am the type that if I can pinch a penny and do it myself for cheaper that is the way that I go. I don't see the point of draining the bank account lol.
wow, I can'timagine being able to spend that much money on home schooling in Kindergarden. IT must be a blessing! I know BJU is supposed to be quality curric, but wow! IN K- we used whatever workbooks we could find. Stuff from Teacher Store clearance etc. Of course being we were Children's Pastors at that time we had at our finger tips the resourses for Bible teaching, so that part was taken care of. All of our kids are really known as BIBLE kids too. IF someone wants to knwo where a scripture is, they as my dd, if someone whats an over view they as my ds15, and my hubby started asking Johnny to put a scripture or two into a sermon the other week in the car so I know that they are doing good. We have used Life Paks, if anyone is looking for a good Bible memorizing type curric, that is cheap too! We were paying for our whole family , three kids for less thatn 350, just because we purchase in April when you get major discounts! Just for future reference, my ds15 who now goes out to school is getting a B in English1, Abeka style, and that is his lowest grade! Just so you know that Life Paks do okay, even with thelow price.
Well let me say that the $800 wasn't for just one child it was for 3. I had one child in 1st. and two that I took through there K4 programs. Which of course instead of being smart and getting one curriculum I got 2 in the K4 not thinking that I could use one for both of my kids. And for being a blessing that is where taxes come in lol. I always get my stuff for the next year now around tax time. More so in April and May when books and so on are on sale. Now I have a question about Lifepacs? What publisher prints those? Is it a text book type thing or is it centered around the Bible?
Alpha Omega is the Publisher. Instead of one large book, they do their LifePac subjects in 10 books, each with a different topic/theme. They're workbooks. They can be good for kids who get overwhelmed by the large books! We used the math LifePacs for my younger two, since they were overwhelmed with the size of the Horizons math books! We liked them. My oldest (11th grade) is doing 3 subjects and two electives using the LifePacs. We'll see how that goes.
Christianbook.com will take you there they have a scope and sequence on every subject and electives too! Deena got all the info there for you other than that hehe my kids love it too, we supliment a few things here and there for variety but for the most part now that I see my ds15 got such good gpa I am more content with it.
Heather, Lifepacs are published by Alpha Omega Publishing. They publish christian materials. http://www.aop.com/home/
My ds is doing fine with them so far also. This is the first time we've used more than the math LifePacs.
