Already have beef stew on the menu for tomorrow. ;)

On that note, last week was rather chilly here; as if Summer just abruptly stopped. Dh called me and asked me to pick up more flour at the store. He said, "It's cold and for some strange reason, that makes me want to bake things." I love that man.

Still does not quite feel like fall, but we were very happy that it was ONLY 85 yesterday afternoon so we could do some yard work. I love being able to wear jeans and a sweater when the weather finally does cool down. But, NO, that does not mean I want to move somewhere with cooler weather. Just like when I am thrilled over rain and dh asks if I want to move to somewhere with rain all of the time. Nope, I don't love the cold or the rain, but a little bit for a little while is nice. I love soups, year round. However, for the last year, I just can't get dh in the soup mood. I guess I overdid it a while back. I know I will be making a pumpkin pie soon and last week we roasted pumpkin seeds. I was laughing and saying, "who cares if it is over 90 degrees outside, I am roasting pumpkin seeds."

    Cooler Weather

I agree, when you live in Florida you always look forward to cooler weather. When it gets cooler my wife bakes more and I just can't wait to have more Punkin, Apple, and Pecan pies!!! :D

I made chili last week when it was chilly. :)

I also get the baking itch....especially when I got in on a deal where bags of unbleached flour were only 99 cents! My most favorite things to bake are pies with the fruit I froze from the summer: cherries, peaches, black raspberries....

It has been cooler here and I made soup last night and made apple butter today. It smells so good cooking and turned out great. I felt bad today or I would have made an apple pie too. We got a bushel of apples on Thursday. I made 2 kinds of cookies on Friday and the kids attacked them like crazy! They were oatmeal and oatmeal, raisin, chocolate chip. I love summer but I admit I was ready for a break from the heat.

Couple of mornings ago, when we stepped out of the house on the way to school, it was "just" cool, and DH and I both said, "Mmm! Gumbo weather!" ... but it warmed up by the afternoon, so no gumbo yet. DH did make a meatball stew, though! He hasn't made one of those in quite awhile. Nice!

I'm looking forward to getting a new slow-cooker so we can throw something in while making coffee in the morning, and it's done when we get home from school.

I made some grape jelly too and it is so good. I love making jelly and jam. I want to try pumpkin butter soon. Oh by the way my daughter made some brownies and brought them to church to share with her class. (this is one of my older daughters who is married) She mixed a dry boxed brownie mix with one can of pumpkin. Not pie mix just canned pumpkin and baked it at 350 until it was done. Then she put a frosting that was sort of a butter cream with some pumpkin pie spice in it. The brownies were very good almost candy like. Everyone loved them. I only ate a tiny piece they were so rich!

Made my pumpkin pie today, with a high of 97. At least my house smells good and fall-like.

Today is a "Gumbo" day at my house... My husband just said a few days ago that if we have any cool days he wanted a gumbo... I am about to make a HUGE pot...

We love fall baking... pumkin bread, pumkin rolls...

We are still in the low 100s during the day, but the mornings and nights are nice and cool. For a couple of days it looked like we were finally going to see fall, but not yet I guess. So I try to bake in the morning or night since my A/C decided to stop working.

I have a multitude of favorite things to bake during fall, but there is something special about roasting seeds.

I'm supposed to be on a diet, but I love to bake, so that may be a challenge. I will have to find some healthy swaps for my favorite recipes, like cookies, brownies, baked macaroni and cheese, lasagna, apple pie, the list goes on, and on, and on.......

I'm not much for baking. I prefer ice cream for my sweet treat year round... we do bake some though...

But I do love soups and stews with fresh, warm bread in winter :) Casseroles too...yummmmmm

Oh man Josie! Why did you go and mention fresh bread?! Now I am craving it. I guess I know what I will be doing this afternoon. It will be worth it though. Amish Country White bread here I come!
