I was wondering if anyone could give me tips or ideas in making an timeline easily. I want it to be fun and colorful...I don't care if it is big or not. Well, big is better. lol. Anyway, I am now sure if I know the best way to do this. I am supposed to start it today. It is an ongoing project...adding to it weekly. I am thinking of putting it off until Monday...so I know what I am doing. Thanks!
What time period are you talking about? Man, I can't remember the site addresses of where I got info. Is this for on the wall? I have a picture of ours, let me see if I can find it and see if that's what you're looking for. It's fairly simple but it neat! My kids love it!
Deena that is awesome! I am doing creation to the resurrection. It is from Mystery of Histroy. The chick has an idea for a timeline but it sounded so confusing! lol. I thinking of a wall, up the stairs, or a fold away poster type thing. So, I am open to suggestion.
Deena, I like your timeline. I showed Dh and he got wide eyed. No wall time line for me. I already have the walls covered up with stuff.
Thanks! That's our modern one. We're working on our ancient one now that's on another wall. This is how I like filling up our walls for now---it's better than normal pictures and things! The kids like seeing their stuff up there like that, and if they forget something, they check the timeline! Plus, any visitors we have love looking at the timeline! For the ancients, we just read about Alexander the Great. So we need to get him up on the timeline.
Wow~ Deena~ that looks great! We are doing Mystery of History, vol. 1 this year also. We don't have room to do a full-wall timeline, so we decided to put our timelines in 3-ring binders. I got "The Wonders of Old" timeline book by Terri Johnson of Knowledge Quest~ but I got mine through Homeschool E-store (www.homeschoolestore.com) so that I could print 2 copies of it. Then, we put the pages in as we go along. Each girl has their own book and they have really been enjoying adding to these. Good luck with whatever you decide!
Ava Rose, Try this site. That's where I got some of my timeline figures, and I got my younger two the timeline notebooks. They're a little expensive (we got them on a special when they were new), but they're so great for keeping what your kids do forever, basically! http://www.homeschoolinthewoods.com/
Wow, Deena! Those time line figures and books look terrific! I wish I had had them years ago! Even so, they're still tempting. I guess I could use them as review, we'll see. We've been doing the notebook idea, and they'd work in that just as well as on the wall.
We made some timelines that you can print for free on www.hsiz.org You do have to register to access them but...there is no charge and I never send the info to anyone. It is designed to be used in a 3 ring notebook but, you could hang them all on the wall if you wanted to. If you register and don't get an confirmation email back, which you do need to confirm before gaining access, your spam filter is blocking it. Email me and I'll manually approve you. info@hsiz.org
Prairie, They ARE terrific! I really like them! I have it both in the notebook and on the wall, well , for one thing, because we can---we have room. For another thing, ds, especially, is a visual and hands-on person, so the big timelines on the walls have helped keep him interested. Another thing, that I mentioned before, is that people that come over NEVER say, "So what do you do all day?!" anymore!!! They say, "So THIS is what you do!" and look at the timeline walls, and the kids are more than happy to bring out other things they've done---more, I'm sure, than the person wanted! We use the same figures in their notebook timeline as we do on the wall. We cut them down smaller, but when it matches, it's easier to keep them straight in their minds, and they learn them better! With the timelines and the hands-on stuff, we have been LOVING history for 3 years now!
By the way, I just used paper cut in strips and spaced out the times and put it up. I still am trying to remember where I got some info. for how to make them... I know in the past we've talked about it, so if someone wants to do a search, fairly far back probably, on timelines, they may be able to find the sites and things we talked about.
Thanks, Deena and Shelia for the help! I really appreciate it. I am very excited about starting this. I LOVE history and want to raise children who do also. I love it when people come over and see our projects! I used to hide school stuff. Then a homeschooling friend told me not to worry about it...people are expecting to see school stuff in a homeschoolers house. I guess that makes sense!
Deena, the timeline looks great, I have the perfect wall, maybe something we will start next year and go thru the whole year. One of the hsing mom's at our church used the wallpaper border to make her timelines. She also used them at sunday school for the Bible. They were inexpensive and they rolled up after she was done with them.
wow deena that is one huge wall! I dont have that much room in my house for one, but I sure love yours! That is awesome!
Deena, that is awesome wall. Let me see hmmm where in the RV can I put a wall like that. Might have to give up dh, oh no can't do that. Think I will go to the three ring binders.
Actually that's not a huge wall. See the lightswitch in the lower left-hand corner? That is kind of a visual to see how big it is. Well, it's not tiny...Kris, you're right, you probably can't do one of these like this in your RV! As much as I enjoy our timeline walls, I think you made the right choice to keep your dh! You can even do something like this on a door, though it'd be harder. Can't really use bathroom walls either, unless you laminate everything. My walls are in hallways, one of which opens up to the downstairs.
You're right. Even though I registered, I couldn't get in to see your timelines. And my e-mail couldn't get through to you either. But the site looks interesting. I'll try again another day.
That is awsome Deen! I just cleared one wall for a rain forest. I would love to do something like that though. I think I'd have to put it in the hallway which has no light so nobody would be able to see it. No room anywhere else. We are going to be starting our timeline as soon as I order history curriculum. I have one in a binder right now and we just add to it as we go along.
