It was HORRIBLE! But I'm ultimately glad I DID go to the doctor and even MORE glad it's OVER!

She dug around w/ a needle w/o numbing my foot, every now and then exclaiming "This is deeper than I thought!"

I took all I could stand, and told her I was willing to have a local anesthetic, even though she was straight up w/ me and cautioned it may hurt more than the splinter!

Talk about UNDERSTATEMENT of the year!!! That dang needle in my already-tender foot RIGHT at the underside where my last two toesies connect w/ my foot hurt MORE than either one of the 2 epidurals I had before childbirth!!! I hollered outloud!!! I felt like such a baby, but she said she knew how must it much hurt and that's why she'd hope to manage w/o it. MAN!!!

Once it took effect, I felt no more pain (praise the LORD), but could still feel her tugging and digging. As long as it wasn't hurting, I really didn't mind. That is....until my dd8 came up to the head of the table ( I was lying on my tummy facing the wall so I wouldn't kick and couldn't see) with her hand over her mouth saying "Oh Mommy, there's so much BLOOD!!!"

Great. I thought it couldn't possibly get any worse, but after she said that about 3 times and hearing the doc say "I knowwwwww....I'm so sorry", I thought to myself, okay, just let me throw up and pass out now. She must have worked on my foot for about an hour, but finally said she got it all out.

THEN, to top it all off, I had to get a Tetanus shot, which was actually a piece of cake after the foot torture. But now my arm and shoulder are so incredibly sore, even after Tylenol! Waaah!!

I know there are so many others going through situations a million times worse, but thank you all for letting me whine!

Do you know where the splinter came from?

Yoweee! Sorry you had to go through that! Glad you could come here and whine! How is it feeling now?

If my dd had seen me bleeding like that, she probably would have passed out, then I'd have THAT to deal with too! Yipes, I bet you're very happy that's overwith!

I'll pray for quick healing for you!

My dgs was on the swing set (he was 4) and he fell down the one end and ended up with a splinter lodged in his upper leg. I tried to get it out, but it was too deep. We went to the ER and they gave him a local and cut it out, 4 stitches and a popsicle and he was just fine.

I can't imagine it being in my foot, how tender. Praying you get a good night's sleep and it will feel better in the morning.

One of my twins got a cut on the bottom of her foot when she was little. It was so pitiful watching her lay on her stomach yelling for them to wait a minute! Once they numbed it she was okay but man was she mad at the doctor! She had to have internal stitches as well as external and had a spot on her foot that had no feeling for years. Glad your ordeal is over. Beth

I didn't hear any whining. That sounds awful! I am so sorry. I hope it heals very quickly for you. Did they have to stich it after all of that "digging" around?

YES! And the maddening thing is that it is my own @#$!*&%! fault! (that's not really supposed to stand for any word in particular, but imagine it sounds like "GRRRRR")

My dd8 and I had a fabulous shopping trip for garden tools and supplies (you know, those requiring LOTS of physical labor, and NO sore feet or shoulders?) and I was clearing a place in the garage for them in an effort to be organized. Well, I had moved several boards from the frame of our old full-size bed that we don't currently use, and set them length-wise at the foot of our bed, with the intent of sliding them underneath and out of the way.

Needless to say, I forgot all about those blasted boards. As I shuffled to bed 3 nights ago, I kicked into the corner of one of them full-force. The lights were out since hubster had already gone to bed. That's how it all began and you all know the rest.

THAT'S why it's so frustrating because it could have been completely avoided and was totally unecessary. :|

And this morning, I was reminded why one should never say "I can't get any worse!" To add to my foot and shoulder pains, I woke up with awful girly-cramps. Well, at least maybe I can just hurry up and get all this over with at one time!!

I hope your foot feels better soon. Feet are so tender.

My dd got an earing stuck in her ear and I had to take her to the ER for that, they numbed it and she didn't feel a thing,

Years ago, in the Ann Landers column, someone wrote in that they ended up with this huge, thousands of dollars medical bill over a splinter. Theirs had become infected and all this other stuff. It required surgery if I remember right.

    Hope you're better soon.

Yikes! I felt like such a baby going to the doc over a splinter, but I could NOT get it out myself, and was afraid of something like what you wrote about happening! Better a little discomfort and inconvenience now than major trouble later. Better yet, don't put old boards in the floor of your bedroom and forget to put them away!;)

Thanks Becky, for helping feel better. Thanks to everyone!

Ow! Sounds painful, I'm sure you're glad it's behind you now.

I remember going to the hospital when dd (9) slammed her finger in the car door. The doc heated up a pin and poked a hole in the top of the fingernail (it was swelling huge). Had all I could do to NOT faint ! Felt so bad for little dd. She healed quickly though, and didn't cry at all.

They say that no matter how "minor" the pain, that it tends to fill up one's senses and occupy one's mind. And, besides, your ordeal does not sound minor! I hope you've been able to keep up with school work, teaching, homeschooling, and life, thoughout all of this!

Glad you're on the road to recovery. You're right, feet are tender.

I used to have ingrown toe nails removed regularly. The shot is quite painful. I would let my toe get really bad, all swollen and purple and full of yucky stuff.

Anyway, glad they got it out and I hope you will be feeling better in no time.
