... I was in the hospital, in labor with ds.

My doctor, the nurses, the rest of the world was in shell-shock I think. My doctor did a lousy job.

But we- we were isolated inside our own bubble of pain and expectation.

We giggled and gasped. We cried and sang.

And at 7:01am on 9/12/01 our first little miracle was born, 8lbs 9.5oz.

I share this story because when my ds was a baby, someone asked me how old he was. When she realized his birthdate, she said, "oh, I had wondered how people with babies born then felt."

Here's how we felt: exhausted, busy, sore, blessed. New life had arrived. It never occurred to me to feel the panic that people not in our immediate family circle were feeling. We still sang lullabies, and cooed. We cuddled and kissed. And we were thankful that we had been lent this new little person to love and laugh with.

Hard to believe he's 10 already.

That is so awesome. My daughter was born two weeks later. Though I did have some doubts about the future because we were living in my parents basement while have our house renovated. It was a stressfull time but once our little Grace came along things did seem lighter, easier, and a sense of well being.

    That was beautiful.
    Happy birthday to your son!

Good and bad go hand in hand. Maybe to show us that life always goes on.
