I'm going crazy! My 18 month old does not stop moving - unless she's hiding on me! She can climb onto the counter tops using the handles; she dances on the table; pulled the fireplace insert out of the wall, and a cable wire out of the wall . . . Ugh!

I need to find ways to channel her energy into good things, and I need to find a way not to be frustrated all the time. I'm sure this is on the spectrum of normal, but neither of my boys were like this.

Anyone else have a mover shaker kind of kid? How do you keep your cool?!

You just described my 1 yo to the "T"! He climbs up on everything, constantly, and I go nuts trying to baby proof things that shouldn't need to be babyproofed! The only thing I can do to contain him is baby gate him into the living room, it's the only 100% safe place. I dread the day that he is able to defeat the gate. GRRR! No advice just sympathy.

LOL!! sounds just like my 18 month old!! I don't have any advice because mine doesn't sit still long enough for me to even change her diaper! I do have baby gates everywhere and I corral her to the areas that are the safest though. My gates are really tricky to open and have stumped many adults so I dont' think she will be figuring out how to get through them anytime soon. So until then I just let her run wild in the living room/hallway area.

Just so you know, it is normal. :)

Try going to a near by baseball field. They are usually fenced in. Bring a chair and a good book. Let her run and bring her tricycle or what ever. You can relax and get the much needed break you crave.

My daughter was like that last year at that age. The good news? I ate like a horse and was as skinny as a rail. There's always a bright side. :)

Well, at least I'm not alone!

She can defeat the baby gate, but only when she's really tired, b/c that's when she is most crazy. If she pushes over or climbs up a baby gate, then I know it's really nap time!

Outside play is fun, we love the park and back yard. She doesn't run away - most of the time - but she will eat things so I still have to be vigilant. Outside time is my least stressful time of the day!

SOunds like she is really excited to explore her world!! My 22 Month old is like that. Example: He was just dancing on the kiddie table we have thats not the sturdiest of all. :-/ He's a goofer though!

I use baby gates and confine him to the space which I'm in so I can keep and eye on him, and he is rarely in the kitchen with DH or I because we don't want him to climb and get hurt while we're cooking. Also, the kitchen is where I tend to be less vigilant b/c I'm usually in the middle of cooking a big meal and I don't want to have to worry about the hot coils on the stove, or the paring knife on the counter you know what I mean?

Really, all I have is sympathy. SORRY! (((hugs))) OH, can you find a small play gym she can run around on? We have a small tunnel/slide/and stairsteps that we made with plywood, padding, and old fabric. Maybe you can make something like that and let her move around on it. It's padded so she wont get hurt and you can put interesting textured fabrics over it to entice her sense of touch on her feet and fingertips!

Sounds, my dd who is now 15 years old. She keep me on the run the who time. Jumping of the couch and chairs at 16 months and loving it. The higher the better. Was jumping off 12 foot diving boards with lifeguards at 18 months and loving it.
I am surprise yet to this day she only end up with 2 broke wrist. Nothing else.
But, I could tell a story as long as Texas all the things this girl did. I have the grey hair to show for it too. LOL

Have fun, they are so much fun that age and grow up so fast. In a few years you will look back and say where did those years go.

Today is a better day. I was so frustrated yesterday!! I think we may have a new sleep pattern in the works, and she is always more crazy when she is tired. Last night she went to bed and woke up at a different time, and seems more rested today. She just went down for her nap (an hour late, but no craziness or screaming about napping). So maybe the last few days were especially bad b/c I hadn't noticed she needed a new sleep schedule?? Hopefully we'll do better now.

I know she'll always be my active one, and I probably need to change the way I think about that and enjoy it! *sigh*

God is growing me again. Did I pray for patience? He's stretching me there for sure!
