Everything went pretty smoothly today. We stuck to the lesson plan I made, and actually finished an hour ahead of schedule! I'm so grateful that I get to do this. When I took DH to work this morning, we had to drive through a school zone. The line of cars to get in seemed a mile long, and that meant that many parents were late, late, late! It looked so chaotic, and I could only breathe a sigh of relief that I didn't have to be one of them. Then it rained pretty heavily around 2pm (when ps lets out), and I was again grateful that I didn't have to be waiting in that line again, or that my son didn't have to come home on the bus in the rain. Also, I decided to use + or - to grade his work, instead of letter grades, and I'm letting him correct his mistakes on the spot for most of his work. It led to a great, stress free day. Even though last night, we were both nervous about it. He had trouble falling asleep, and I did too, TBH. Now we can both relax, and realize that its gonna be A-OK!
Good for you! Our first day was awesome too and that's directly from my son! I can't believe how much we accomplished today. It took a little longer than I thought but I was worried that I planned way too much. I was surprised to read that your ps lets out at 2 pm. My son's school didn't let out until 3:15 pm last year and he didn't arrive home until 3:45 pm. and then he had homework. That never gave us much family time.
Thanks! Yes, it's in at 8 and out by 2 in elementary schools here. I think the middle and highschools go in and let out later. He always used to have HOURS of homework when he got home, it would take him so long to finish it, and by then, he was so cranky and tired, it just made it harder.
I am always so thankful I homeschool on bad weather days. I also love that we can stop whenever I choose to have a snack or lunch. Today dd got behind on math so she did not eat lunch until 12:30 but her math was done. If she had been in the ps they would have made her take that sheet home and finish it there on top of any homework she had. Sd used to come home with incomplete sheets all the time because she would get behind. It just compounded the homework problem.
Homework was always so frustrating! There was always so much of it, I felt like, What the heck is he doing in school all day?
