argh. I was hoping that this new curriculum would eliminate lessonplaning, be more portable because it is all in one...allow the boys to work independently. and be interesting and fun.

So big plus on decreasing the prep work...it is interesting and sometimes fun. but it is very mom intensive. I have to do pretty much all o f the reading and without the lesso plans written up the b oys are resistant to doing the other stuff. (typing/cursive, math are not included in the unit study) We liked the first book...but there is a lot of material to cover and the writing was a bit much so I am having to tweak way more than I thought I was going to have to.

Then it turns out to be not portable at all. there are just so many books and I feel like we are jumping around a lot.

So while I like it I am feeling very behind. but this week I have had the flu, seriously on the couch for a week, and I couldn't get the boys to do anything...a tiny bit of math and we watched some "educational" videos. but I am not sure if it is just bad timing or the curriculum.

then on top of that I am having trouble with Saxon...my old faithful. For Jazz, Saxon continues to work well although we are getting into things I really need to think on to help with...so the plan has always been to switch to TT next year, but it isn't working well with Dutch. He gets frustrated think with the spiral format...especially when he is having trouble with something and then boom it is gone and he has to switch to something else. So do I use TT for him also next year? ugh. (I already have the next saxon book)

I think I am just venting...but I really need to figure out how to make this curriuclum a bit more independent as I get into my internship more I will be gone more hours during the week. sigh.

I would recomment spending the money on TT if it helps them and you. It is worth some money to save everyone headaches and tears.

As far as the other goes-it sounds like you are doing a unit study? While the idea appeals to me-it never seemed practical. Especially since I work full-time (away from home). I would love to do artsy-crafty things, but I know my limits. So, we work with textbooks, and living books, and I just try to stick to the important parts of things and try not to do every worksheet and every problem when it is not needed.
