My dh is turning 40 and friends want me to through a surprise party for him before we move. That leaves only this weekend because of time schedules with a friend having chemo. I don't want to have it at our place, I am looking at a restaurant type party. The original plan was to have it at Chucky Cheese, his friends are goofy. Now I am having second thoughts because of his friend that is going through chemo. I don't think I want him exposed to all the coughing, runny nose kids. This friend is his BEST friend and it wouldn't be a party without him. So what could you all recommend for a 40th birthday party. I don't plan on paying for everything. It's possible that around 20-30 friends will attend. I will decorate and supply cake. I was thinking that maybe a pizza type place. Any ideas??? My dh's friend wanted it at the senior center, lol. But I don't plan on catering. Ideas??????

I like the pizza place idea. Some pizza restaurants have a separate room for large groups. That's what I'd look for. It simplifies ordering. It's casual.

PLEASE STAY ASWAY FROM C. C.! ......... every time we went there my kids got a cold. however we do have a different pizza place that is a lot simular (ours is called Peter Piper pizza)...... before the party call and explaine about the friend going through chemo and ask how often they wash the games and spray with LYSOL.... ytpe stuff or offer to do that. ....... where ever you go just put little bottles of hand sanitizer out for your guests........ it sounds fun and I"m not looking forward to turning 40.....

an an alternate note......... turn it in to an OVER THE HILL... you can get lots of "grave stones" at party places this time of year....... black balloons........ see if there is a community room you can rent for the evening..... bring in little ceasars pizza for pretty cheap.

Thank you. I decided on not doing C.C. too many germs to chance it. We have a local restaurant that has a separate room that I have reserved. It should be fun!

Glad you found a better solution for your friend's sake. :) My dh turned 40 in March. He did NOT want a 40th birthday party.....so that night at church we had a "Goodbye to 39" party instead. ;) Where there's a will, there's a way.

    Sounds perfect!

I arranged a surprise party for my wife's 40th birthday. The surprise was ALMOST spoiled because, as we waited at a red light close to the restaurant, a couple of invited friends were walking from a parking lot to the restaurant. Thankfully, I was able in time to distract my wife's attention toward something in the other direction. Thankfully, there were plenty of other cars in the parking lot itself, so she didn't recognize any of her friends' cars. You may want to think about these things in advance, having everyone park somewhere else and maybe entering the restaurant through a side entrance.
