Its working! DS, who was constantly counting on his fingers for addition, has been doing great on his math drills. I give him one sheet with 100 addition facts every morning, before his regular math lesson. Today, he got 82 right! We will be doing 2 weeks of each type of operation, and then cycling through them all again, all year long. Thanks for all the ideas, everyone!
Yippee for finding something that worked! And good for him. Are you using pre-printed ones or are you making them yourself? I think I'm going to follow your lead and try some drills, but I'd rather not make them myself (yes, I know, I'm lazy). lol
I'm using math-drills.com They have hundreds of pre-printed worksheets and it comes with answer keys. Each operation has many different sheets, so you don't end up with the same sheet over and over. I'm also graphing his results and progress, and I'll be putting the graphs in his portfolio.
Love it! I think I'm going to do it, as well. My kids add/subtract well, but I want more automaticity in dd's. Even with manipulative she sometimes miscounts, and it can be a slow process (especially with her running monologue when she should be concentrating).
I like this site http://themathworksheetsite.com/ for 5-minute drills. It will make a different sheet every time. I'm also using drills for the two boys, but I've divided them up into 4 one-minute drills @ 25 facts each. The girl's math (CLE) has one-minute drills built in, one per lesson, but they have 32 facts per, and a graph of results that she does herself. I'm about to start the guys on graphing their results too.
