My Mom is turning 50 in a few months and I'm working on planning her a party! Any ideas to make it a memorable occasion without going into the poorhouse? She loves dragonflies so I think I'm going to do the theme around that. I'm also thinking I might have some games out on the table from her childhood and have some 50/60/70's music playing. Any ideas on what games should be out?
Pit is a good game! Did she ever play that, or Melbourne? How about Twister? Is that what it was called---the dots on the floor and you have to put hands and feet on certain colors. Know what I mean? How about SORRY! ? Did she ever play Careers?
I know about Twister and Sorry- those are good ideas! You've lost me on Pit, Melbourne and Careers This is going to be a big group. Do you think it would be ok to have the games scattered around on different tables?
go to the dollar store they have tons of 50's things and games. U can do Bingo with cheap gifts from the dollar store.
She wasn't very old in the 50's, she'd be more 60's and 70's, I think. Maybe you can look those other games up on the internet? Pit and Melbourne are card games, Carreers is a board game. How about Life (boardgame)? I think have card tables spread around with different games, and maybe even a puzzle on one, would be good! dd had different things on different tables like that at her party she just had (her idea, too!), and the kids had fun with that! She had a puzzle table, coloring pages table, beads table, and a Littlest Petshop area (too much to put on a table), and it was fun!
Deena, I was thinking the same thing!!! I mean, I'll be 50 in just a few more years!!! She's a YOUNG mom, lol!
My mom is young- she had me when she was around 20 or so. She was already married. She also looks a lot younger then she is. Most people take us for sisters! Thanks for all the ideas. I'm sure if I start asking around and looking now, I can find a lot of these for fairly inexpensive! I hadn't even thought of a puzzle- that is a good one and she loves to do puzzles!
I did a quick search of Pit- we used to have that in our closet growing up. I wonder if Mom still has it around the house... I'll have to go snooping!
Oh, I saw a new version of this in our games closet when I went to put something away---How about Password? Oh, there's also Racko, that one's fun!
For my 50th my kids had a huge poster of my pictures from birth on up. Everyone loved looking at that. They had balloons for all the kids to write birthday wishes to me on. We all got together and released the balloons. It was real pretty. They had the party at my sister's house and it was too cold to swim but still nice enough to sit around her pool which is one of my favorite places to be. We had lots of food and just enjoyed talking and visiting with everyone who dropped by. I really enjoyed my day.
For my 50th, my mil put 50 - new $1 bills in a long white box, looked like a long stem rose box, and wrapped it up. I really enjoyed that. My brother sent me 20 - $2 bills for my 53rd birthday, he called it "fun money".
buy 50 small things that match the letters in her name like My name AMY A 50 andees mints, M 50 m&ms, Y yo yos ask the guest questions about your moms life, see who knows her best making a poster with pictures is a great idea we did this for a family reuion and everyone loved it.
For my twins 30th birthday we had a list of things they had done or things they liked and everyone got a copy and had a chance to mark the 30 things with one of the twins names and whoever got the most right won. You could do that only make it true false unless she happens to be a twin. Even people who don't like playing games had fun with this one.
