I am trying to get a good Math book for my 7th grader for next year. Any ideas will be fine? I was even thinking if I could find a good web site to print off worksheets would be good also. We have used Abeka but was going to try something different. Any suggestions will help.
There are a lot of good maths out there: http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/Store/curriculum.php? http://www.stanleyschmidt.com/FredGauss/11catofbooks.html http://www.mathplanet.com/courses (free) http://www.khanacademy.org/ (free) http://www.glencoe.com/sites/alabama/teacher/mathematics/index.html (free) http://www.thinkwellhomeschool.com/ http://www.rodandstaffbooks.com/list/Mathematics_for_Christian_Living_Series/?offset=49#1-137-- http://saxonhomeschool.hmhco.com/en...006&level3Code=M31081&level4Code=&level5Code= http://www.singaporemath.com/Discovering_Mathematics_s/167.htm http://www.brightstorm.com/math/ (free) http://www.onlinemathlearning.com/grade-7.html (free) http://www.hoagiesgifted.org/online_hs.htm (free.... scroll down to find math section) http://www.livebinders.com/play/play_or_edit?id=9506 (click the math tab to find several free options)
My dd13 loves, loves, loves Life of Fred! She is not a "math kid" but the style of writing and humor in the book make it work for her. I highly recommend it. Also, it's pretty inexpensive. I found our book on Amazon for about $30 with shipping.
I, too, am extremely partial to Teaching Textbooks. It has made a BIG difference in my house. I LOVE it!!! My oldest is about a month from finishing 7 (she tested out of the first few chapters b/c they were mainly review). I'm planning on buying the new Pre-Algebra (it grades! whooo hooooo!!!). Anyway, I would totally recommend this. But if you're interested in it, I would check www.teachingtextbooks.com and have her check it out. Then have her take the placement test for 7 and then for Pre-Alg...coming from Abeka, you'd probably end up being able to skip 7th and go right to the Pre-Algebra.
I loved the Teaching Textbooks we used. I have the Pre Algebra set for sale but it is NOT the one that grades for you. If anyone is interested send me a private message please. I also have the cds for TT 6 and 7 for sale.
Beth, I'm not sure what you mean by that. So it's like the upper-level stuff where you have to check it by the answer book, as compared to the lower level stuff where you answer on computer and it tells you the score?
