My kids stopped getting homework last year and I couldn't have been happier. The thing is I do feel it is the responsibility of the teacher to help my children succeed. The problem is even though my ADHD/Asperger's son has an IEP and a special ed teacher he is still failing. It's maddening! He's smart and loves history but getting him to do anything else is a nightmare. There is no way I'd ever be able to homeschool him. I would end up homicidal, lol.
Michele, if the special teacher with the IEP isn't doing it, quite possibly homeschool is the best option for him. I have a friend whose middle child is adhd/spectrum, and she's homeschooling him because school was a nightmare for him. Her other two go to public school, but this one is home with her. Yes, she has days when ... well, you know. But they've found some online something (I'll try to find out) that is working for him as much as anything will, and it's going better. She doesn't actually *teach* it to him, but just structures his day and environment for him, and tries to help if he has difficulty. I won't tell you he's going to be Einstein, because he also is below average intellectually, but I'm just saying it CAN be done while keeping your sanity!
