My darling, precious son has finally decided on the theme he wants for his bedroom. He wants it to look like a lab. LOL! Of course, he would choose something for which I can't just run to Target! Noooo, not my kid! I'll be sewing, painting and crafting for weeks, I'm sure!

Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'm definitely putting "paintings" of molecules. I have test tube and microscope clip art for something. There is a shelf 18" from the ceiling, and I thought I'd put tube lights toward the edge of that. Other than all this -- I'm kinda clueless so far. Help?!

What type of laboratory is he intersted in?
    Here are some general ideas:

    Microscope
    Skeleton
    White light (for x-rays)
    X-rays
    Test tubes
A lamp that looks like a glass cylinder
    Balance scale
    Metal cart or lab furniture.

I don't know how far you want to go with it but you could spray paint his furniture silver to look like stainless steel and attach thin metal sheeting to the top of the furniture so they look like lab tables. Sometimes you can find old x-rays on e-bay. Maybe you can get PVC piping and attach it in a way so it looks like something a mad scientist would use and spray it silver. On old Frankenstien (sp?) movies their was always knobs and buttons to push. Maybe you can attach a bunch of old gadgets, knobs and handles to a piece of ply wood and attach it to his wall then he can hang stuff from it.
    Hope this helps.

    I just thought.
You can hang up some metal racks and use it as a bookshelf and maybe hang some safety goggles from it.
You might be able to get your hands on some vials off of e-bay and make pencil holders out of them. A metal clip board hung on the wall would be a cute idea.

Maybe you could hang a chart with the table of the elements. Or you could paint (or buy) LARGE letters and put some of the elements (H20, etc.) on the wall just for added fun! :)

Ok I typed you up a long response with pictures and links and then the storm knocked out my computer :(

So minus the pics and links Here's what I had come up with:
A three foot Glow in the dark Skeleton (about $10 on Halloween websites) for a nightlight. Or pay more for a nice one that can double for science class

hang a real white labcoat on a hook for a wall decoration, be sure it has a pocket protector. http://www.thinkgeek.com/apparel/golfshirts/73b3/ (this site also has come cool science toys)

Get one of the famous e=mc2 Albert Einstien posters.

    On the shelf:
Various shaped bottles with labels like "Hydrocloric Acid", Some jars with body parts in them Brains, hearts, heads (There is a site somewhere selling the brain and heart in candles they looked cute and one on how to make a fake head in a bottle that creeped me out), flasks and vials with various colored liquids in them, I even say a jar of slime for sell with spiders in it (I think they called it a slime trap), Ebay had a cool bubbling vial thingy.

Any lamp can be made a blacklight with only a blacklight bulb. That will make things glow neatly.
