I appreciate you posting all this.
I actually tried to find the site I read that on, about England's students being two years ahead of American students, but I couldn't find it. I saw no point in debating it after that.

On the indoctrinating stuff. I just wanted to say that if you are personally looking into a school you can check out their textbooks.
for example I believe that evolution is being indoctrinated, and you can see it in everything. History, science, reading, civics etc they all talk about it like it is fact.
Also I was thinking the other day on how much the ps has control over our daily society. I mean when are the grocery stores, parks, roads busy. All of it revovles around PS times. When does 90% of america go on vacation in the summer when ps is out, or on spring break. etc.
I don't know if this answers your question or not. But it was what I was thinking about the other day.

This is something that bugs me too. Of course, either most people don't notice it or it seems natural to them.

    aggie01,

That is why I like homeschooling so much, its the "off hours" I have.
No lines at the stores, saving money by taking vacations during the "off" season, going to the movies when its not packed, going to museums and because its not packed usually we get a personal tour and behind the scenes look at stuff with the staff!!

Plus I can choose what my child will learn or not learn ;)
If we want to teach evolution, that is my decision.
If we want to spend all year on say, the Tudors because my children love that time period, so be it.
I have no one telling me what to do, except my DH.

It is scary and just plain weird what they "teach" in school today. I just shake my head when my bff tells me what her daughters are learning in school ( and from classmates).
Thank goodness we have the option to homeschool here in America!!!
