I noticed that some of you have named your homeschools, and was wondering if this was done per state regulations, or if you just chose to do so. As I posted on my Blog, I'm not that creative, so was wondering what inspired each of you to the names you chose.
Ours is Cygnet Preparatory Academy for diligent and resourceful boys. Cygnet (ugly duckling, baby swan) because we live on Swan st. the rest because it sounds cool. the diligent and resourceful is a play on those old schools for deliquent and incorrigable...lol. We designed a shield...and had it printed on t-shirts. It was pretty fun. We did it just for us...our state doesn't require it, but I liked the idea. The boys choose a viking for our mascot...but that really never comes up. We tried to put one on the shield but it didn't make the final cut.
We got ID cards from HSBCO to get local discounts. It required a name. Otherwise we wouldn't have one.
Way of Wisdom Homeschool here! I do this just for me, for fun. Sometimes I'll actually write it that way on forms, sometimes I just write "homeschool".
we are not required by law but I liked the idea so I came up with Roots and Wings Academy. kind of corny but it perfectly sums up my theory of parenting. my husband and I perfectly balance each other in this as he is the fun, adventurous, encouraging parent (wings) and I am the more stable, tradition-loving, lay-down-the-law parent (roots). I have thought about doing informal "i.d." cards with a logo, just to make it seem more "official"
Well We use to be Princess Academy for years. But, when I started homeschool and named our school no one told me they would grow up so fast and wouldn't want that name anymore. Now both of my girls are in high school so we change the name: We like wolfs alot ( our whole house is load with them), so we named our school Wolf Bay High... and we use Wolf's as our Mascot... we love the name.
We had to put a name on our paperwork with the state. We are just Sloan Academy. The papers we had to fill out had a lot of things listed that you should not use so we just kept it simple.
We don't have to have a name, but it's fun. We ended up simply being S***** Family Academy and call ourselves the SFA Adventurers and our Dalmation is our mascot. (The S is our last name ) We want to have shirts made up for when we go places... because even hubby is nerdy like that lately
How Fun! Our last name is SO basic....it would be fun to come up with something creative. Hmmmmmm......can you refer to it as a zoo....I have alot of monkeys.
We gave ours a name just because we wanted to, and to remind us why we do what we do. Our school is called His Child Academy of Life because we are all His Children and we are learning so that we can succeed at Life, the name reminds me and DH that we are raising our children for His glory, not our own, and that our goal is for them to be all that God want's them to be in Life. It also helps to remind me that just because I'm not teaching one day learning doesn't stop because life is learning! We haven't had shirts made yet but we are going to Tye-Dye some shirts and then I'll write on them with puffy paint our school name for when we go on field trips and such. It'll be easy to spot our children.
When we were hs'ing ds, we were just (our last name) High School. When we opened the school, I chose Peter & Paul Academy. We're schooling Other People's Kids, so I wanted something that would reflect the variety of kids and learning styles and Christianity and stuff like that there. Our mascot is the Centurion, and motto is Miles Christi Sum (I am a soldier of Christ.). The song is Onward, Christian Soldiers. Our colors are red (for Christ's blood, and it's a Roman soldier color - so if they got wounded in battle, their own blood wouldn't show as much on their red tunic) and gold (for the streets we'll walk on one day). I keep threatening to have t-shirts made, but haven't had the money - one day I will. I chose Peter and Paul because they were about as different as two disciples could have been (and their names are alliterative). Paul had the equivalent of a Harvard doctorate for his education, while Peter (as far as we know) had the ordinary education from the synagogue school. Paul was firmly grounded and legalistic, traditional, to the point that it took a "Damascus Road experience" for Jesus to get his attention; Peter was impulsive and quick to react, emotional - probably had adhd! And yet, both received their ThD at the feet of the Master Instructor and formed the foundations of the church through preaching, teaching, and writing, each uniquely qualified and utterly sold out to do God's Will and spread the Gospel. It is my hope and prayer to plant the seeds (and water some) that will further the Kingdom in some small way, and may the Lord reap the harvest. In a more temporal vein, I want to teach kids educational skills in a safe emvironment with Christian materials as much as possible, and if possible get them to care about becoming an educated person.
I stole Jackie's years ago....(shhhhhh...she doesn't know!) Ours is Way of Wisdom Christian Academy. I think I'm going to change it, though, after seeing friends' kids' diplomas with their school names on it. I thought our hs name was too long. I'll be asking the kids for input, especially since they will be the one handing transcripts to people.
Agape Academy HS here. We chose it , well I did , because I love the unconditional love of Christ! I wanted my kids to have unconditional learning options too. Plus I am really a big Love person ( hey was born in the 60s what do you expect!?) We chose to name it becuase there is always a line that says "name of school" wherever you go and this way we had one.
Well, you know what they say, "it takes one to know one"! I figured out that I am -- not so much because of hyperactivity because I'm not that, but because of the ability to hyperfocus, quick reactions to things, daydreamy-spaciness, all the opposite-end-of-hyperactivity traits - when my very hyperactive son "set me off" all the time and I finally figured out why.
We don't need a name, but we have one anyhow. Our last name is a common word and pairing it with another word made a fun play-on-words. I never thought to use our school name as a t-shirt or marketing activity for the kiddos! Maybe I can use some of that in my current advertising class. And the boys can help!
I chose GA Peach Homeschool. 1-we live in GA and GA is known for peaches. 2- our 'classroom' is peach. http://gapeachhomeschool.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/sany1518.jpg I'm thinking since I have 2 boys they will want to change it later LOL but for now it works. It's not in our state laws that we have to have one but I think "school name" is on the monthly attendance form I have to turn in....
