I left some writing on my cheapo dry erase board and went to erase it.

It erased, but there was still a hint of the writing left behind...

So I thought I would fight fire with fire and re write over the writing with the same dry erase marker to re-wet it, as it were... I just KNEW it would work!

Until I realized I had grabbed the PERMANENT SHARPIE MARKER, instead of the same teal colored dry erase marker....

    UGH!

    Any suggestions??

    NOTE TO SELF...
DO NOT store Dry Erase Markers and Sharpie Markers in SAME bin!

OOOOOO. I just got that sick feeling in my stomach!

All I can say is the ONLY thing I've ever found to erase sharpie marker is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. But it wasn't on a dry erase board.

You could try it...then us REAL dry erase board cleaner afterwards to see if it would restore the boards erasability.

Sorry. I'm sure you're not the first to do that!

Baby wipes usually work on the white boards to remove sharpies. Good luck!

I've used a mr clean magic eraser on ours before. We bought a used one at a thrift store that had stickers and all sorts of things on it and that's the only thing we could find to get the residue off. The board is fine.

Yup. No need for any kind of cleaning. Just go over it with a dry erase marker and erase and you'll be fine. I've had this happen a couple of times myself.

Permanent marker is removable from non-porous surfaces using any of the following: acetone nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol, mr. clean magic eraser, goo gone, and sometimes Awesome cleaner works as well.

Don't use nail polish remover on anything plastic. Acetone eats plastic.

Hair spray. That's what we used in the classroom when that would happen. It also takes permanent marker off of laminated posters. (It must be the AEROSOL SPRAY kind, not the pump!)

Another vote for the all powerful rubbing alcohol!! I goof all the time.

Right now I'm more upset though I bought a new "school specific" dry erase board and it was all pretty and shiny and they DROPPED IT and now it has a dent right in the middle. <sigh> I try...... LOL

Second the aresol hairspray!!! Once when dd was about 5, she wrote and solved an addition problem on the board all by herself, I was soooo proud thinking, "my kid is a genius, I should probably call MENSA for an application packet........."lol~then, I realized my lil Einstein used a sharpie to write it with!!!:p I was so proud and took pictures of the board and everything!! LOL! Rubbing alchohol works great too. After using it just go over the board with glass cleaner~good luck!
