I agree! I LOVE their laundry detergent. I wish I could just purchase it by itself.

I had made my own for about a year. The only problem I had was that I was using ivory soap because at that time (about 7 years ago) I could not find any of the soaps that the recipe called for and was told that ivory would be an ok alternative. It was ok, but it did leave a residue in the washer and didn't seem to wash the whites as well.

My husband was a hydraulic techician back then, and got plenty greasy, so when I would wash his stuff, I would add a scoop of oxyclean. The cost I was saving from the soap made the oxyclean much more cost efficient than buying a better laundry soap.

I think I will start making the soap again, now that you have mentioned it. I have seen all of the ingredients around in stores. I had a set of "tools" set up in the bucket I used just for laundry soap. I probably still have them somewhere :)

I didn't look to see if you put where you are from-but every time I've made my own laundry detergent I was able to find the hard to find washing soda and fels naptha laundry soap both at every publix and kroger I went to. If you can't find it locally-buy it online.

I did make my own a few weeks back and LOVE it! I even have made my own fabric softner which is better than store bought, I washed my hubbys jeans and he ask me if he had wore them aready because they were so soft, not like they had been with the other softner. It makes everything feel so soft and fluffy.

WOW! Amazon is horrible to change prices-yesterday when I posted the washing soda link it was $3.49-about the same as our local grocery stores-today is $6.49! YIKES!

Has anyone check at Soap.com? Don't know if they have it, but their prices are pretty good.

Our Fels-Naptha is only 99 cents a bar at the local County Market (Cub Foods). I had thought of using Ivory next time, but not if it doesn't work well. Any other Ivory testimonials?

I didn't have good luck with the Ivory. It caused a build up. I think the problem is, is that it is too soft. Maybe, I don't know, but I didn't like it.

Try looking for a Zote bar -- it's made for laundry. I can find it at my local Market Basket store... but they put it with the bath soaps! not with the laundry stuff.

I've looked for Zote here, too, to no avail. I'll stick with what works for now. :)
