I am thinking of using an accredited school/academy for our homeschooling to help with my record keeping, provide me with feedback, and basically as my safety net, especially as we are nearing the end of 4th grade and will be in middle so soon. Does an accredited school exist where you can choose your entire curriculum?

I know Seton and MODG are 2 Catholic accredited schools (we are Catholic, yep!), but the MODG site is down and Seton is too much worksheet and in-the-box for our multisensory, eclectic learners. Are there are secular ones out there with good reputations? I already have our curriculum figured out, so it would need to be flexible in terms of curriculum (which I know Kolbe is, though depending on which state we will be in, their accreditation through the National Association of Private Catholic and Independent Schools might mean little to nothing from what I have read)?

If you really want accredited then you want regional accreditation from one of the following accrediting agencies.

But honestly, you don't need accreditation. IMHO it's a total waste of money! Use your money on curriculum, outside classes, or extra curriculars.

Doing your own record keeping isn't that hard. If you feel like you need someone or something to make you feel better about your homeschooling then you might consider doing a yearly achievement test.

I guess I am looking for accountability and especially as we head into middle school in 1.5 years, a safety net in general. I am such a worry wart, and trying to balance 3 kids with various special needs, tons of therapies, appointments, etc. it sounds nice to have an advisor to help ensure we keep on track. I just am not sure what to do, lol!

We like Kolbe for high school. I decided NOT to use them for middle school - I have decided I don't need to document for that grade.

My friend has all her kids go through Kolbe through high school. Depending on which diploma you get depends on which classes you "HAVE" to take through Kolbe. However, her kids have all done the standard diploma and gotten into various schools without a problem. Kolbe added on the extra classes she gave them without a problem enhancing their standard diploma and "beefing" it up credit-wise.
