Has anyone used the three year course of AIG: History Revealed for High School? If so, could you give me your pros and cons? Also, is it pretty student independent or is there a lot of teacher involvement? Thanks for any input you want to add!

I use this. I'm in the middle of a crazy day....when I have some time tonight, I'll come back and comment.

We've used Ancient Civilizations & The Bible, and are just finishing up Romans, Reformers & Revolutionaries this year. We are definitely moving on to the next in the series for next year (World Wars, World Leaders, etc???).

Sorry I can't give more now, but I have a lot to say and not a lot of time!

Could you do them out of order? My high schooler (next year) is just finishing a cycle of Ancient History.

We use My Father's World, which uses living books for history-- the Bible, Journey Through the Bible, and Streams of Civilization, vol. 1 are the spines with other books added in about different subjects. MFW has a high school curriculum, but it's very pricey, and I already have some things on hand.

Thanks! I am trying to decide between these three high school Ancient Histories:

    MFW
    History Revealed
    Beautiful Feet

Any input from any one would be great!

my dd wanted beautiful feet but we didn't get it, it looked so great! I could have done it with my ds but he was not into reading as much as dd.
Oh, and I am using Exploring World History for High School History so far. DD loved it, ds is enjoying it's pov on things. He is grasping History really well but we are doing English on the side due to his lack of thrill for some of the readings- Pride and Predudice was great for my dd but ds has heard the full story and seen every episode we could find because dd and I love it! lol

Okay, sorry to keep you all in suspense! LOL

We've used the AIG stuff for the last two years and will be continuing to the next year, for the final in the series.

We do not do it the way she lays it out (because, well, I don't like anyone telling me how to do something! LOL :) ).

FIRST....the way SHE does it. There are 9 units. Each unit is broken into 4 phases (or weeks). Each phase focuses on a different learning style. Basically, it's taught that way so they encompass all learning styles and evenutally one will work for your child.

WHAT I DO - ideally we do still take 4 weeks to each unit (although, we've crunched these last few into two weeks because I want to get done!). BUT, We read, listen to the CDS (which is DIFFERENT than what's in the book, unlike SOTW which is just an audio version of the book), over the course of 4 weeks they pick and art project and a research project that they work on for the full 4 weeks and turn in at the end of the unit. They also do the vocab, the mapping and timeline work over the course of the 4 weeks. In addition to this, I pick one of the historical fictions mentioned in the resources section of the chapter and they read that as part of L/A. Often we'll do one of the science experiments, watch a DVD/Video that fits, do the cooking project, sometimes we even do the art history or music lesson if we have time.

Overall, I DO like the program the way WE are doing it. The CD's get tiresome, and basically it's her voice that gets grating after a while! LOL :) She has this voice that sounds like a pubescent boy who's int he process of having his voice change. That gets old, fast. LOL :).

Also, for the timeline, I make up my own and print it out, and I use the internet and make up the timeline figures. They cut and paste them in.

Also, for the map, I usually copy the TEACHER map and have them trace, color and look it over. I don't really make them do all the work themselves (I did obtain copyright approval from the company to be able to do that).

We will take a break after the last book in the series and go back to MFW ECC so that my youngest can get a thorough geography year, and so my son can have a refresher.

    :)

I don't think any of mine would enjoy listening to the CD. And... I'd rather use a learning style that consistantly works with my kids. I may have to look deeper into this!

Yeah, we go by mood and listen to the CDs in the car on the way to activities. If we're not in the mood for her voice, we don't.

Oh, and my youngest does the elementary activity book. And we do not do the tests.

I'm willing to share my planning docs from AC&B if you'd like to look at them. I have a major planner for each unit. Then individual/weekly/unit type ones for each kids. They're .docx files.

I have RRR,too....but I gave up typing in the main doc, so it only goes up to chapter 4, I think! LOL I ended up handwriting it! LOL :)

    LMK. :)

  17. I am so excited to use History Revealed World Empires. I have posted our daily lessons for the first four units. If you are interested you can pm me as I am a new member and they won't let me show you the address. We are using a lot of extra geography and I am making the lessons primarily online for the family I am helping to tutor.

We're doing World Empires this year! I'm looking forward to it! I like that it lays all events in the world going on at the same time in line with American History. I'm working on the planning! EEEEK!
