Hi, I'm wondering if most people use an all in one language arts program like McRuffy or Pathways, or if you mix and match. For my daughter, I'm considering grade one curricula. I'm also looking at The Phonics Road to Reading and Spelling or All about spelling. Has anyone had experience with either of these?
I think AAS is for older kids after they are done with phonics. I wanted to love McRuffy, but it was just too much for me, I do better bits and piecing our LA together.
I haven't done either of those, but we used Learning Language Arts through Literature before we went with our charter this year. All of my kids (including my dysgraphic/dyslexic ds) scored really well on the Language Arts tests for placement. So I recommend it for a no-stress all-in-one that gets the job done.
I second Learning Language Arts through Literature. It's a literature based study. I think they read 4 books per school year. But the language arts is all in one book. No spelling book, grammar book etc, they are all within the one grade level. Oh and the book's pretty cheap too compared with other books. You can get the student book and teacher book for about $20 each, or less than that if you buy used.
Just a heads up in case it matters, LLATL is Christian based. I didn't know that when I bought it a few years ago... wish I had because that does matter to me (we aren't Christian).
