How long is everyone taking off?

We are planning on going through the end of next month then calling it a year. Talking off the whole month of July and back at it early August.

We're finished on June 17th (well, technically the 20th b/c hubby's taking the kids to "Take Your Children to Work Day"....I'm counting it as school!!!!).

I think we're taking off about 6 weeks. Although, I'm going to have the kids do Math everyday....and I am making a Summer Reading List for them all. I figure that way, they can't say "I'm bored".

I have our schedule for next year set to start on August 22nd. We're starting full steam, too - no light weeks....just jumping right in! LOL :) Poor kids!!

DS8 is finishing homeschooling next Fri, June 3rd. DD10 & DS13 will be finished their schools on June 9th. We're taking a few weeks off, then everyone is starting back on July 11th for 9 weeks, with Fridays off, before taking another break in mid-September.

DD10 has 6 weeks of gymnastics camps this summer that aren't over until Aug. 20th, so we'll just take long weekend trips during the summer months and take a longer vacation in Sept. I figure, since we'll be home anyway, we might as well get started!

We do Sabbath Schooling, which is 6 weeks of school, one week off, all throughout the year. At Christmas time we take off 4 weeks and this summer we will be "done" at the end of June and take off 6 weeks. Then back in the swing of things.

This helps us to avoid burnout. It has worked great this year! We LOVE it!

We will finish near the end of July or early in August. We will start back when the public school does in September. So we will have about a month off. Boys requested to continue science through the summer and we will do some math. But mostly they will be focusing on a subject they want to learn. One guy wants to learn how to cook and the other one wants to learn computer scripting or something along those lines. Oh, and daily exercise is a constant. It has to be for my sedentary-prone boys.

I am so looking forward to an uninterrupted school year. We have moved in the middle of the past 3 school years putting us behind every year. Hoping we stay put at least until the end of next school year!

My DS is done with PS on June 3rd, which is also DH birthday! We will be having an end of PS/Birthday/Deployment send off party. I think I will give DS a couple of weeks off of school, and then I will start with the curriculum we got. He is really getting excited, and so am I! :D He was asking tonight if he could stay home to learn tomorrow. . . And I thought I was going to have problems with him wanting to do HS! ;)

Garrett has his 180 days in, shhhhh don't tell him, because he is still working on math and a few other things I throw at him along the way.

I'm not sure we will take much of anything off this year, Garrett is behind in math (from our computer dying), the littles are just learning to read and I don't want any kind of a break to allow them to lose headway, so we will most likely do math and reading all "summer", along with a few other things.

We struggled so much this year with what we had chosen, we wasted a lot of time from being burned out and not being happy with what we had to do.

That said, we start counting days July 11th for our next school year, as usual.

Dd did 1st & 2nd grade this year, ending in April - she continues with school (3rd grade). She loves school and just picks up her books occassionally and works. I let her go at her own pace.

Ds ended in April, also. He started working with dh in May. They only work when it is not raining, so when it rains, he works on his next grade (11th). Ds will have to work in the fall - during school, when it is not raining, so rainy days we school.

It seems to be working for us. We will start school officially the middle of August.

Today is the last day for math here; we won't do any math during summer except multiplication and division cards twice a week, and reading clock (he will wear watch).
We will do LArts only for the next week, writing letters, articles, stories, dictations and going through grammar once again. Two weeks of June we will be covering some American history only, and will call it DONE on June 20th!

I plan on finishing June 3rd. I am also planning on starting early in August and we will follow the public school calender to a certain extent, but with some tweaking. I want to start about 2 weeks earlier than ps, so we can take of the month of December. I don't have to have the same number of days, but we try to keep it close.

I would like to do the year round thing, but I don't that would go well with my son.

Since we HS through an online academy, we get off May 31st and won't start back until after labor day.

We will be doing some things all summer though.

I have about an hours worth of work for each kid. (Spelling, Grammer, Math, Social Studies, Science)

I'd like a different schedule but it is what we have. (I won't get my new supplies until closer to Sept.)
