There are many other reasons we don't send our kids to our local public schools, but when I read this, I just felt so bad for the people I know who really don't have much of a choice. I have a friend whose special-needs son goes to this school. I know that not all teachers are bad, but the lack of judgment of these two is just astounding to me. If the officer followed them from the school to the place of arrest, then they must've had the drugs, etc. with them at school.

Don't they do random drug screenings on teachers??? Maybe they do, and that's how they knew to follow these two to begin with?

Unless they smoke regularly the drug would only stay in their system for 24 hours. Also, no offense to the TC and not condoning it, but considering the things I've heard other teachers do this seems pretty tame. Especially the ones at colleges.

My dh is the director of CDL (Commercial Drivers Lisc) drug testing. Holders of a CDL are randomly tested (urine) for drugs and alcohol. If my memory serves me correctly, marij. stays in the system for about 2 weeks. If someone tries to drink a lot of water to hopefully get rid of it, the test will come back (I forgot the exact term) watered down which is actually a failed test.

True, not all teachers are bad. There are some really super special needs teachers. I do know that our local school district goes above and beyond to accomodate special needs kids. True, some people don't have a choice but to put their kids in ps, or simply don't want to hs or sometimes the kids are better off in ps because the parent does not have the time or discipline to hs.

They don't do drug testing on the teachers where I live. I think they should though, and of the athletes too.

Wow, that's terrible. I believe that most people think that because These Teachers are professionals that our kids are in good hands, and obviously that is not always true.

I have not heard about anything like that happening in my area but I have certainly observed in the school that my kids attend, teachers that I do not agree with. Just in the way they talk/yell at the kids. I'm sorry, ever since I decided to homeschool, the thought of a teacher's assistant or teacher yelling at my little 5 yr old just makes me kind of sick. And this particular teacher's assistant that sticks out in my mind is in a special ed classroom. I mean , come on, you have to have a lot of patience in these classrooms and so many just don't have it.

At least they didn't do it on school grounds or came to school intoxicated.

I worked in a couple different school districts and they only did drug screenings as part of the hiring process if I remember correctly. They definitely didn't do any periodically.

Can't help it -- have to ask: is their "defense" based on "hey it was Friday afternoon, after school, and off-campus, so what's your beef?"

Afraid this is nothing new. I graduated from high school lin '77, and a friend of mine that went to a neighboring high school (rich district, I might add!) would often meet with a group of kids at the home of some kind of advisor who was a teacher at the school. This female advisor, according to my friend, would smoke pot WITH the kids she was advising!!!
