This would be #4 in a family of 5 over a 12 year period and it stops here!! I'm the only one untouched and I have no plans on being the next one. And again we're dealing with another head injury in our home, this time with our youngest son. He did a head dive into the pavement when he lost control of his long board on Thursday evening at dinner time. EMS was called, he refused to go to the hospital so my husband took him home, I went back to finish my shift at work and monitored him. Friday I took a pile of heat from "experts" in the community (yea I'm being sarcastic) and took him to the hospital to be assessed where we would learn he had two bleeds on his brain (one was obvious by the lump on his forehead - the other did surprise me). He was admitted for observation (seizure risk) and we were able to bring him home today to continue his recovery. If you should think of it, please pray for Noah's recovery and for the rest of us.... it has been a VERY trying week for us (this happened after multiple other BIG stressors this past week). I'm hanging on to a frayed knot and it hasn't been easy. I'll save you from all the details here.... just a bit too much for me right now. Heavy heart and a lot on my mind and covet your prayers when you think of it.
Tell the kids you've had enough, and make them wear helmets if they want to do risky sports. I made Elle wear a helmet EVERY time she rode/jumped horses. Still didn't make it safe, but it made it safer. So sorry for what you've been through, hope things improve! Prayers for you and your family...done!
Noah was discharged home on Sunday, keeping him quiet has been a challenging. The swelling has gone down but he's pushing himself too much. My nerves are frazzled. There's a lot going on right now and I'm doing all I can to hold on.
Sweetie, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this too after all else your family's been through. I'm praying for all of you.
Still praying for you folks. Hope things are calming down and that you get some rest from the stress soon.
Noah is doing MUCH better: the swelling is almost completely gone (the only swelling that remains is within his hair line so it isn't as obvious). He's out and about trying to be himself again. The headaches are few and far between now. He went to school yesterday but stayed home today, he's back to his normal schedule tomorrow and then a long weekend to rest some more (yeah right! Noah doesn't know how to sit still for long). The doctor told me on Sunday he could resume his normal medications again but I've held them this week and will restart them at half the dosage tomorrow (for school) and see how he does with those before we go back to his full dosage (Andrew wasn't allowed his meds after his head injury and I wasn't going to chance it with Noah). Thankful to have the worst of this behind us now. We continue to ask for your prayers.... we seem to have this latest medical saga under control, we need other things to be better controlled (many of which are work related). All tough ones
So glad he's doing better Make those adventurous kids wear some darned protective gear so they don't give you a heart attack. lol.
WOW! Put the whole family in helmets! You included so you don't add yourself! Praying for safety and healing all around. Peace!
I just saw this. I hope Noah feels better soon and recovers without any incident. I got a concussion 2 years ago (July) and I was down and out 8 weeks. So. Not. Fun. I know you are a nurse so you'll keep an eye out, of course. I just worry because I know what I went through. I still have 'swiss cheese memory' and can't sustain concentration, like to drive, for very long. I pretty much do not drive on the freeway unless absolutely necessary whereas before, I would go everywhere. My dr said to be careful not to get another konk on the head, because it could cause a seizure or aneurism. So I am very careful. Hopefully, your son will be no worse for wear and nobody else in the family gets a konk on the head!
