OK, some of you may recall that we recently pulled out the ancient bread machine and started using it (cuz the kids wanted to bake some and I'm NOT a lover of kitchen stuff). Anyway, we got the big bricks of yeast at Sam's. We opened the first one tonight. Then I put the rest of the yeast in a rubbermaid food container and stuck it in the fridge. Is that airtight enough?? What else should I use if that won't work. Should I put it in a ziploc bag and then in an airtight container?? Right now the rubbermaid is full but wil it still work ok once we've used more of it?? Thanks ladies....I'm definitely out of my comfort zone here. Rhonda
I have a jar I bought way back when with yeast in it. I fill it up from your "brick", keeping it in the refridge. The rest of the "brick" I put in a zip-lock bag in the freezer. I think Rubbermaid containers are about as air-tight as a zip-lock bag, if not more so!
I keep mine in a rubbermaid container in the fridge, on the top shelf for years and it has been fine. I hope that your bread turns out.
I am still pulling out my same bag of yeast strait from the freezer every time I make pizza dough.......... I don't keep any in the fridge anymore.
