That part really got me, too! I've heard it before...that it only further damages the poor, underprivileged public school students if all the "good" kids with "good", involved parents pull out of the system.

The thing they don't seem to realize is that it rarely, if ever, works that way. I've seen an example of it in my own home the past two weeks. We've been taking care of a friend's son for summer break and though I love his mom to pieces, she and her husband have done a huge disservice to their child by never requiring any manners out of him. Even the simple things, like saying "Please" and "Thank You", are completely foreign to this 6 y.o.

I didn't realize how much I took for granted the way that such things are automatic now with my kids. So I've told the child that our house rules are that we say "please" and "thank you" and and I refuse to do what he is demanding until he asks for it nicely. Which is like pulling teeth...

Anyway, what I have noticed is my OWN kids having to be reminded again to say these things!!! He hasn't even been here two full weeks, but his demanding ways are trumping years of training my children to be polite!

While talking to a couple of friends after his first day with us, they all said, "Oh, but it's great that he can be around your kids and their good behavior can rub off on him."

Which is nice in theory, but I'm learning that it isn't working that way! And then there's that part of me that asks, "Why am I having to do what his own parents should've started teaching him four or five years ago?"

And that's exactly how I feel about that whole "Keep the good kids in public school" theory. How is it my responsibility to raise other people's kids right? Or send my kids into the lion's den as a good example...to be devoured? No thanks!

    GEESH!!!

Let me tell you something. God didn't give ME all those kids in public schools as MY responsibility. He didn't even give me any of YOUR kids as my responsibility! He gave me THREE, and my job is to do what I think is best for THEM. And that's what I do. I think it's best for THEM to be homeschooled. All the kids in PS are simply NOT MY PROBLEM, and I'd appreciate it if you (ie: the author, not any of my friends here at the Spot!) not try to make me feel guilty about them! Because I DON'T feel guilty!!!

So sad what ignorance breeds. :(

My kids are so much more keyed into the REAL world.

Don't let their ignorance get to you. Leave the hatred to them!

WOW!!! I'm not really sure what else to say either. I read the second article and let me tell you, I feel bad for that teacher's students. She is arrogant, misinformed...etc...

I do love her number 8 though. We as homeschooling parents are being selfish by keeping our "smart" kids at home and not letting them mingle with the other kids as peers. LOLLOLOLOLOLOLOL That's a JOKE!!!!!

Wow! Does that teacher have issues or what? Could she be more jealous of all us richie, selfish parents who are keeping our un-socialized geeky kids at home against God's will at the kitchen table? I think not! (yes, that is my arrogant answer!)

I couldn't read the first article, but I did get through the second. Based on ya'll's postings, I'm guessing that it runs in the same vein as the first. But I'd like to say, they obviously went to public schools, because they have well learned the tactics of bullying and tearing people down who don't fit into their preconceived ideas.
