We're leaving for vacation Sunday, and will be spending 5 days of that in Moab. We know all about the national parks in the area (our primary reason for going...hiking), but could anyone out there give any recommendations for weird, interesting attractions, or great restaurants? Any advice would be much appreciated. Carol
Hey! I haven't been there for a really long time, and I was still a kid so I don't remember much. I do remember Hole In the Rock! Here's a link to their site: http://www.theholeintherock.com/ It's really neat, a man and his wife made it and lived there, later they were both buried there. Have you heard of that place? Other than that I really don't remember much else. Are you going to hike up to Delicate Arch?
We did a big Utah National Parks trip in May and it was totally awesome! We focused on the parks and camped the whole time and didn't eat out at all so I am no help in that area. Have you ever done any letterboxing? The Moab area has tons of great letterboxes. If you are unfamiliar with letterboxing check out this site http://www.letterboxing.org/index.php. Even if you don't choose to letterbox you might want to follow the directions on this box because the petroglyph rock is amazing. http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=14436&boxname=Art_on_the_Rocks Sand Dune Arch was one of our favorites, it is different than many of the arches since it is in a canyon and very few people were visiting it when we were there. I don't know if your kids think they are too old for it (my 11 year old niece does), but many of Utah's National Parks have junior ranger programs.
Thanks for the ideas. Our kids don't think the Junior Ranger programs are for little kids. They each have about 15 badges/patches. We visited Bryce and Zion Parks and the Glen Canyon area last year. This year it's Arches (and we will see Delicate Arch, among others), Canyonlands, and Mesa Verde in Colorado. We're also going to Dead Horse State Park. I'll look into the letterboxing. It sounds interesting. My archeologist wanna-be son loves to see petroglyphs. Cheers! Carol
I have had several people tell me that the Heber Creeper is very good. You may check it out. http://www.hebervalleyrr.org/
