We had a black bear in our yard a couple of weeks ago. We cleaned everything up but this morning the bugger (or it may not have been the same guy) was back again. There's a picture on my blog. Cute fellow.

Anyone else dealing with them as they come looking for food?

We live in a valley so the bears come down on a regular basis looking for food. Every once in a while they come to the center of the city but they usually stay near the foot of the hill.
I wish they came around here more often. They are beautiful creatures.

no bears in my yard but there have been plenty of them in town. A friend got a picture of one in a tree not too far away from my house. That kinda freaked me out. We have nothing outside that might attract them. I am really afraid of that so I am extra cautious.

Nope just coyotes who try to eat my chickens. I would be terrified of bears if they had them around here. I am thinking at one time they did in the hillcountry because I went to a cave onces and they said they found skeleton of a bear.

Oh and we have chupacabra's too hahaha

We have coyotes too and I think they might trouble me a bit more then a bear. The bears seem pretty skittish and quite content to browse the birdseed or compost while a coyotes might see my cat and think it's mealtime. :)

We have problems with coyotes. They have come into our yard a few times looking for food. There was a time when they would come and attack our chickens. We no longer keep chickens in the back third for this reason. It is strictly fruit trees now. But since the chickens are no longer in the back, the squirrel invasion is stronger than ever.

We had one come into our yard, climb our tree then he was chased across our fence, fell in our back yard then jumped the fence and ran on. Citizens were chasing it. I stayed away being a MamaBear and all, I did not want to be confronted by HIS MamaBear!

We had one running through our neighborhood last summer. We also have mountain lions in the area so we have to be careful when out walking.
We had a raccoon get into our backyard and eat part of the kids waterslide.

We also have an occasional mountain lion and bobcat come around a few times a year. Usually they stay on the outskirts. I haven't noticed any but I hear we also have foxes, especially along the river and golf course.

We had a bear who would dump our trash cans at least 3 times a week last summer. We haven't seen any signs of him so far this year. We also get coyotes.. they chase the wild turkeys :( poor birds!

I posted a pic of our bear here on the board a really long time ago! We had a snow while it was still warm enough for him to be out and about and he left some really awesome footprints in the snow so we made some paster and made a cast of it.. it still sits here by my desk.

Honestly.. the coyotes bother me more than the bear.. but the bear worries me too. Esp with the little kids outside playing... we have told them a million times if they see them to alert us immediately.

Oh.. and I didn't care for the bear pooping in my driveway.... seemed he did it every day for a while..grrrrr.

No bears just too many squirrels. I heard just last week someone on the other side of Houston had an alligator in their swimming pool! It is alligator nesting season here and the females will roam to find a good nesting area. I think I'd rather have the bears than the gators.

We do have coyotes on our property in the country and once we had a cougar or mountain lion - not sure if there is even a difference. We made a cast of it's tracks and had a Texas Parks and Wildlife person out to our land. He confimed it was a large cat. That was years ago. I did have coyotes in my yard one night trying to get my dog back when I lived on that land.

When the first bear visited a couple of weeks ago he left some nice prints in the garden but we didn't have plaster! I've now learned it should always be on hand. :) We also had to scoop some bear poop that day.

Officially, there aren't any cougars in Nova Scotia but they've finally found evidence in the province next door and there have been sightings for years so I don't doubt they are here. I just hope they're not around my house. I'd take a black bear over a cougar ANY day!

My dh and ds found bear doodies when they were hunting last year. It smelled like nothing really but the bear had been eating a lot of Pinon Nuts. Oh and he had some dung eating bugs in there too. Very interesting.

I cracked up when it read this. It reminds me of our dog. He loves eating fruit from the fruit trees. Last year he ate so many apricots that when he pooped, there were whole apricot pits in it. I was worried he would plug himself up with the pits but sure enough, they came out. LOL

No, not the entire thing. He tore part of it up really good though by dragging it around the yard. We think he tried to eat through a part that had water in to see if there was food inside.
I love all the critters, just not when they come in my yard. Last year the squirrels enjoyed my sunflowers before I could harvest them.
