I don't want to feel like I'm going to drown just yet, so yeah, I started wading in today -- a little math review, a little reading, a little science... DONE!... and what a relief! We're using mostly new curriculums for every subject this year so I think I'm going to take my time wading around this week and dive right on in next week.
it can be difficult to dive in , so thats a great plan! At my kids ages I still do some toe stepping first
We jumped in head first....and as a result we had some serious lumps! LOL, but it's all worked out now especially since I've seen them learning with just the little that we do each day so I've FINALLY got to the point where I feel like I'm going to just relax and take it easy and sail through this process and they will learn...even with only a little each day!
We waded today and I got eaten by a shark.. a shark named Jeannie! We did some math and art and that's it. Still, I bet you guys all heard her shriek at your houses!
breathing here, one more week one more week! Whew... i made my first week lesson plan up. it will probably be about a half day to complete the work I have
We haven't even dived in this week. We started school on July 9th. Since we are ahead, I am not going to worry about it. We were out all day yesterday and today I am taking time to rest so that means NO SCHOOL TODAY!!!!!
Our charter starts on the 2ed and we have this HUGE packet they want us to do for placement. Its all "no fun" stuff on top of being a big pile. =( So we are DIVING IN HEAD FIRST and doing the packet plus adding fun stuff to break it up. So far its working out fine but I have to say, with me working part time and running my own business from home and now doing home school... I'm pooped.
Well we started and dang it if I didn't say "SWITCH!" So now I am downloading the audio books I need for the Ambleside Online stuff which was my 2nd choice anyway. At least math and grammar will stay the same <whew> But we are starting at a medium pace. Hit the library today to get the required free reading book (something from the list) and then a few other things. Last minute purchases from Amazon will be here on Thursday and then I think I'm actually DONE! Just need to finish all these downloads..... 54% on Shakespeare........ and who knows on the Bach CD I wanted as background music Ok that was a "me" thing......
arrg. we had our first bump yesterday. Mostly me. Better now. We definitly DIVED, but I didn't want dh to accuse us of not doing enough. I think it is still so much more efficient than school ds is fine with it. we are often finished before ds the younger gets home from school. and we don't start until after breakfast, which is after ds leaves. (I like just having the one to get ready...some one on one time, much less yelling these days around our house.) Sooo, we are switching history, and maybe english... I am not happy with the curriculum and will do more hodgepodge I think. Added a more structured bible... Still need to figure out movies...dish? cable? netflix? we are going to be through with the pitiful offerings of the library very very soon.
I am using this whole year to wade into the water - lol. I have a 4 1/2 and almost 4 that I am using the Teach Your Child to Read in 100 easy lessons. I am hoping to be done with this book by December when my new baby is due. My 3 yo is learning the rest of his letters. My one year old just plays.
My plan was to get our toes wet this week, and then do a little more each week until we are settled from the move. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeel, the kids do not agree with that plan. Last night I was reading to them and doing some rhyming words flash cards with my oldest and they didn't want to stop! I had to find the workbooks I bought at Dollar Tree a few months ago because they wanted to do school! I hope that attitude keeps up! My oldest asks me everyday if her books are here yet. She didn't like the idea of homeschooling at first, but is warming up to it.
