My best friend and I are giving a shower for a girl she's taken under her wing for years.

We've got some ideas in the works....but I thought if anyone had a game, favor or decoration idea that they think is just really amazing...I'd love to hear about it. Particularly if it's inexpensive and can be accomplished in the next week. LOL.

So far, we're doing pink, spring green and yellow for decoration colors. We're using a lot of butterflies and bird's nests....sort of a nature theme.

We know it's a little girl on the way...so a little girlie...is fine.

    For food, we've got

turkey and Swiss sliders on sweet Hawaiian rolls.
deviled eggs (we're dying the whites pale pink and pale green)
Pasta salad with olives and tomatoes and fetta
    Potato salad
    tiny watermelon slices
    veggie tray

Instead of a sheet cake, I got

    A lemon tort
    A german chocolate cake
    A carrot cake
strawberries cut in half with instant cheesecake mix piped on top...and sprinkled with graham cracker crums

I'm tying the cakes together by decorating them all with edible wisp thin pink butterflies and little white gel-paste flowers

I made a paper mache stork, and we got some cute spring-green metal lanterns to put tea lights in. Also making a few table favors with one pink rose in a glass vase full of pebbles and pussy willows.

My best friend made these awesome knitted baby shoes...which we're also putting on tables.

For candy dishes, I found key lime flavored white chocolate pretzels...in spring green.

We're doing a diaper raffle for this big gift basket we put together. It's a great basket full of comfort stuff...slippers, bath beads, A big fluffy bath sheet, olive oil soap, a bottle of Chardonnay, bees wax lip balm, back brush....all sorts of fun stuff. Anyone who brings a brick of disposable diapers gets entered in the diaper raffle! We're hoping to get this girl stocked with diapers for a while!

For games...all we have so far is the baby poop candy bar diaper game.

Looking for your best unique ideas!

    HELP!

I've been to some where they played the clothespin game. Everybody gets 3 when you get there (spring type, which you pin on your collar or sleeve), then they tell you a word, phrase, or action you are to avoid. If you catch someone saying or doing the target thing, you get to take one of their clothespins to pin on yourself. One with the most clothespins at the end wins a prize. Oh, and this game goes on in the background while other things are going on, so you kinda forget about it and do/say the target thing because it's a natural thing to do, like don't cross your legs above the ankle, don't fold your arms, don't say "labor" or some other word that's very likely to come up at a baby shower.

You could do the add-on game with a baby theme. You start by saying how mamas have to pack SO much stuff when they have a baby, and the lead-in might be "I'm packing the baby up for a trip, and I'm taking..." and you name an essential thing to take with you. The next person repeats the lead-in and adds another item to the list. Then the next person repeats it all and adds another item to the list. It's pretty easy as long as you're saying diaper bag, diapers, bottles, burp cloths, baby wipes, etc., but before long the list is so long that people can't come up with another one, or can't repeat it all IN ORDER. Eventually only one is left able to do it, and that's your winner. It helps if one person writes a list as things are named, to keep a check on whether each player got them all, and in order. Any mistakes and you're out. It's pretty easy to play this game while eating cake!

You could have a speed race on diapering a baby doll. Best to have three or four dolls on hand. You can use a washrag or handtowel, depending on the size of the dolls, but you'll need diaper pins or just large safety pins, or you could have the contestants fold paper towels to size and use tape, as disposables. Neatness counts!

    HTH!

Thanks for the ideas, Lindina....the games are great! And are exactly what I'm looking for.

There will be about 40 people!

The girl we're throwing it for has been a friend of my best friend for years. She has no siblings, and her mom died about three years ago. Her dad was never in the picture. Her stepdad is a wonderful man, but doesn't have the first clue how to throw a shower and has his hands very full with adult children returning to his small home (older kids from a previous marriage that our friend didn't know well), and her hubby's family is far away.

My best friend was actually asked by this girl to throw the shower. "Sure, I can throw you a shower!" And then she got the guest list...with 60 names on it! (40 RSVP'd by the the requested date...and there are always stragglers) LOL! She was thinking ten ladies in her livingroom! Thank goodness there is a community center near where she lives that is an inexpensive rental.

So, my bestie called me in to help. I don't know this girl well...but my best friend and I have been close since first grade and we see each other every week.

Hopefully we can pull this off:) This girl needs all the help she can get, and I really think it'll be nice.

(But yeah...60 invites..LOL...seemed like a lot to both of us!)
