Has anyone used shurley grammar and if so what did you think of it. If you have not used it, what is your favorite grammar book?
Never heard of shurley grammar or used it, but I really like the applications of grammar series, this is their first book: http://ebiz.netopia.com/clpress/pag...urnURL=http://ebiz.netopia.com/clpress/grade7 When I was in PS I really liked holt, rhinehart and winstons blue grammar workbooks, but I can't find them anywhere.
It's a rote memory thing that you have to put LOTS of time into. If you are great at being consistent and enjoy rote stuff, it works! We started it years ago, and I couldn't believe all my boys could do! But they really didn't know why, and had a harder time reproducing it on their own. It was too much repetition for my boys, and too much work for me, so we went on to something else. I do know that it HAS worked for a lot of people though! Rod & Staff English is MUCH better, imho!
Is it kind of like First Language Lessons? One of the moms at our park day had mentioned it his past spring. I never did look into it though. I fell in love at first sight with FLL. FLL has a lot of memory- memorizing rules for different things, memory work, ect.
