My daughter attends Biola University as a film major. Many of the friends she has made there, and she herself are trying to make authentic movies that flow from their worldview (Christian). They are not trying to make 'Christian' movies but rather to tell stories of the world as it is, and allow their worldview to influence the way they do that, instead of pandering to the Hollywood culture.

But it is expensive to make movies, even the low budget ones they make as students. She is working as producer on a movie that looks like it will be pretty good. She and her friends have already won awards for their movies, so this will be a quality product. They are looking for backers for this project (called 'Summer').

They are accepting donations from $5 up and depending how much you donate, you get something in return. You will at least get access to behind the scenes photos and blog posts of the process of making the movie. I had no idea what all went into a movie till my daughter started on her course 2 years ago, and it would be a fun project for a homeschool family to follow. For slightly more money you get a copy of their last movie that won an award at a film festival etc etc.

The film is set at a roller skating rink and you can read more about it at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1475289778/summer-a-short-film. There is a video about it on the site - and yes, the girl in the video is my daughter!!

So, if you are wanting better, more thoughtful movies to come out of the movie industry, here is your chance to help make that happen. These young people are committed to making a difference with their work.
