Thanks everyone for your input. I still don't know what I'm doing for next year, probably won't decide for sure until August. Right now my thoughts are to bring him home, but it will definately be decided by how things go this summer.

I do know there were lots of things that went wrong on my part with having him home before. I know exactly what they are, and I have committed myself to working on them. Like I know for it to work with him, I will have to have everything he needs to do for that day laid out ahead of time, along with household chores that he will have to do. I am not good at planning things and following through with them. But I know if I do this with him and then once he has done everything satisfactorily then he is free to go play on his computer, or his video games or what ever he wants. When we started last year, we started with a makeshift workbox system.. and it was working for us, but I got lazy and didn't keep up with it, and things quickly fell apart again. So just what happens next year depends on me as much as on him.

Oh.. and I love the idea of the military clubs.. sadly the closest one is in Harrisburg... over an hour each way from us plus it's pretty expensive (scouts about kills us and so far it's just him in it!).

http://cap.findlocation.com/ - this is the thing Jake wants to do (in case anyone else wants to).... we are paying $43/year plus the badges as he earns them.

I have a friend who is involved in Civil Air Patrol, never thought of that. I will have to ask him about it!

ETA.. he isn't old enough yet, he is only 11. But we will remember it for later. I don't know if he will be able to do it because he is colorblind. I do know he can't join the military because of it, so I will have to ask my friend about it before I even bring it up to Garrett.

Sommer, I know exactly what you mean about planning out the days and following through, very difficult for me too. I really do hope that whatever you decide works out for you all. :)

I didn't read all of the replies (My time is short this a.m.) so this might have already been mentioned but you could make the computer programing class part of a reward. He has to earn up that by doing the rest of the school work with a good attitude and on time. :) Good luck to you! :)

I would think he wouldn't be able to be a pilot - but there are a bunch of other jobs that he COULD do! I'm actually hoping that they will learn a little about being an air traffic controller - with the way he is - he is sure to follow in his grandpa's and dad's footsteps there...

Yeah I'm thinking he can't pilot either. He wants to go into the airforce.. but he won't be accepted into any branch of the military :( It started out from when he was first learning colors, he couldn't tell blue from purple, now it's really bad orange and yellow, red and green, and we bought him and Rylee DS's for Easter.. we got him gray and her pink, we had to put a butterfly sticker on hers because he couldn't tell them apart. Hubby said he isn't sure when he should tell him he won't be able to join the military, I know it will be a pretty big blow to him esp now that his older cousin who he practically worships is leaving on Monday for basic training.

Thanks Crystal!! I will just hope that his red and green don't get any worse. I didn't go to the eye dr with him this year, hubby did, and well we know men have issues with remembering the details on such things lots of the time, so I'm not sure just how bad it is now, but I do know it's gotten progressively worse over time.

My dad was color blind, and back then they didn't even want to issue him a drivers licence because of it, he got one, but it took some fighting. He was born in the 1932 so this was a LONG time ago but still is amazing to me.
