A few weeks ago a friend from TX contacted me about a science curriculum that she needed for a co-op and was hoping to borrow. I didn't have it, so she planned to buy it. I had another friend in TN who was selling what she needed for a very good price, so I suggested they work out a deal. The friend in TN offered to send the books before receiving payment by check, so that it would arrive in time for the start of co-op. My TX friend said she mailed the check that day. It never arrived. After a week and a half the TN friend contacted me to see if I had heard if it was sent. I asked and was assured it was sent. Both parties agreed to wait a few more days. Then I got a text from TX friend saying the check never cleared, so she was sending another. That one has never arrived either. TN friend contacted me again this week asking if I knew if TX friend had added delivery confirmation as requested. I contacted her by text and email and never got a response. I asked her to contact the TN friend directly about the money, but she did not. I feel responsible. Should I pay for it myself? I never would have thought this friend wouldn't pay or when it was brought up, I would have suggested to wait for the money.

I find it odd that the friend isn't responding to you anymore. How well do you know her?

If it were me, I'd pay the person in TN. If the check(s) arrive, she can send them back or shred them. Have the friend pay you instead. That way if it works out or not, your TN friend is still covered, and you know whether or not to keep the other friend.

The TX friend is a really good friend. I don't understand why she stopped responding. I even had dh call her to see if she'd answer his call. She did, but he didn't mention the situation. I think if this isn't resolved by the end of the week, I am going to pay it myself. I'm going to tell my friend this and hope that it will encourage her to do the right thing.

What a relief!! My first thought was too bad you are in the middle of it and too bad they didn't use PayPal. Glad it all worked out!

Batman, I suggested Paypal in the beginning, but the seller wanted a check. It was also her suggestion to send the books before receiving payment, but I still felt like I needed to make it right if the money didn't arrive. Glad it did!
