We went to Barnes & Noble tonight and noticed that their Educator Appreciation discount (25% off educational materials EXCLUDING reference) began tonight, Jan. 20th and I think it runs through this week.
How do you get a card there? I dont have a membership to HSLDA and remember being told that I needed to show proof of HSing?
I went last week and got a card. They asked if I had anything to prove it, but I didn't. However, it was the middle of the day and my kids were with me and al I was buying were books for hs. So She gave it to me!
Depending on the store, you might have to "prove" it. Do you have a letter from the district saying you are "excused" for Maditory Attendence, or something like that? Or if you are an HSLDA member, they will accept your membership card as proof.
Or a copy of your Letter of Intent to Homeschool? (If you have to do that) THat's what I show to my Barnes & Noble to get my Educator card. Otherwise they wouldn't give it to me, even if I show them one from last year. It HAS to be the current one to prove I am homeschooling this school year. They were pretty strict about it this year! In past years they haven't been as adament. It didn't matter, cuz I had the current one anyway.
In SC one of our options is to join an association that has at least 50 members and most of the groups give us a little card to use for that purpose.
It really just depends on where you live. I would suggest getting to the know the Community Marketing person. That way whatever they say is needed for your store is so and when an employee questions it you can simply state oh well so and so told me this was the policy. Call your store ahead of time and find out what they require.
nope they just ask me what I did I told them I hs and the girls were with me and they gave me the card right then and there. Nothing else was said.
