I read the article but have not read the treaty. Very interesting. Does anyone have more info on this? What are your thoughts? United Nations' threat: No more parental rights Expert: Pact would ban spankings, homeschooling if children object http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=87929
well, i just put a new post up, bc one of obama's nominations is for a man who is all for this treaty being indoctrinated into the US. pretty scary, from what ive heard, it is a done deal. but i did call my senators
This has been going around in homeschool email circles for years. My best advice would be for anyone concerned to go read the treaty in question. It's not exactly what these kinds of articles and emails often represent.
Would they ban public school if children object? I didn't want to go as a child, but my parents made me. On another note, northern European countries and the Scandanavian ones are having a hard time maintaining their population. But why would anyone want to have children if they are not even allowed to raise their own children? If having a child means becoming a slave to the government to answer to every whim and will of the state.
I like the way you think and question. Very good questions. Sometimes, when studying something, it helps to flip it around, like a math problem.. very good.
No, they would not ban public school. They will decide that a government program is always in the best interest of the child. The government thinks it is infallible, while we parents are just plain stupid.
I think that not banning public schools is poor use of empirical evidence. A few years ago I heard a great quote, and my hubby adopted it during the last MI election: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results." That is how I see it - public schools are failing; we see that everywhere. But to say that a child should be pulled from a productive homeschool for any reason and sent back to public school is like saying we don't think you car is safe, so here is a Gremlin (remember the ones that would explode if hit in an accident?) that we think you should drive instead. The logic is completely absent.
