Since Borders are going bankrupt, they are selling literally everything in their stores - including chairs and bookshelves. We visited a store near us and bought four books. They are all massive books, loaded with beautiful pictures: Smithsonian definitive list of animals; wonderful encyclopedia of the universe; another about landscapes on planet earth; another on world history. On average, they cost us less than $10 each. They were so heavy I really struggled to carry them in the long checkout line. Plenty of people were in the store checking prices on Amazon to see whether they could buy books at Borders and sell them for a profit on Amazon. Honestly, most books were only 10-20% off, but there were still plenty of bargains. Prices will only get lower as they clear their shelves. If you're looking for some good books and there's a Borders nearby, you may want to drop by: Within just a few days, they will be no more.
Our Borders closed during the first round of closings (about 4 months ago?). Only since the company wasn't bankrupt yet, they shipped all their stock to other stores. We got gipped on the sales. lol.
We have 3 closing, but I'm going to wait for better than 10-12% off. I f I had room, I'd seriously look at the shelving!
I'm so sad about this. We have no bookstores in my town, I have a half hour drive to get to a Borders. Now I will have an hour and a half drive each way to go to a B&N if I want to look at a book in person before I buy it. We went Friday, but the only things I needed or wanted I could buy cheaper on Amazon or Ebay or Half either new or previously read, so we passed.
We went over to our local Borders yesterday. I needed a book for a Church study. Nothing we desperately needed there but I will head back towards end of the week and see if the prices have dropped more. There were still a bunch of books at our site, dvds (at least any we wanted) were pretty much gone. Tons of toys still there too.
My sister is closing a Borders in a town about an hour from us. She will probably move on to close more after that one is done. That is what she does. Opens and closes stores. I wish she had time to pick up some bargains for me!
We just got word last weekend and headed out to our Borders to get some deals only to find that they were gone already! Closed, dark and empty. They never had a sale, they were just open two weeks ago. It was like they packed up over night and left. A lot of people were going for the sale and they were already gone with a handwritten note that said sorry this Borders is closed. I would have loved to get some displays & fixtures for my craft shows.
