I don't want to jump into writing letters with DS yet I was looking for some fun activities to do for a week or two before starting the boring numbers LOL

Beggining Cursing ........Hmmmm......... been there done that.

Unfortunately one of the first words my eldest child said was a word that starts with SH.

She was a little toddler and I walked by her room and she was sitting there playing with toys and practicing saying Oh Sh..:eek: SHe was being very determined in her effort to get it just right. ie like mommy. I was horrified that I had negatively influenced my precious child in this way.

THe next several days I walked around the house saying Oh SunShine, Oh Shoes, Oh Sheets on the Bed, Oh Shiney Toys, Oh any other thing with Sh.

ah yes those first cursin words. Been there done that too. :)

Now about cursive-I never did prestuff for cursive. My daughter just decided that she wanted to learn cursive so I taught her. Sure wasn't neat but she wanted to learn. She's gotten good but lately she's been writing what I call crazy cursive. She does it fancy, huge, itty bitty.

I think it is good to teach cursive, and do it rather instensively when kids are young. Both my sons learned writing in public school, but received little instruction in cursive. My youngest son, who was never homeschooled, only prints. My oldest was already in 8th grade when we started, can do some cursive if he tries. Both my kids complain that they can't read cursive and that it is a bit of a handicap.
