On October 31st, our church will have a harvest party and kids are asked to dress in Bible character costumes. My daughter will dress as Queen Esther. That costume is easy because she has a beautiful queen-like dress plus a light up crown. However, I need advice for the boys' costumes. My 6 year old son, Josiah, will dress as King Josiah. I have a crown but I'm not sure what to do about the outfit. My 3 year old son, Isaiah, will dress as Isaiah the prophet. Any advice would greatly be appreciated. Happy Homeschooling, blessedmom
For Josiah, I would include a scroll (the original law was found during his reign while getting the temple back in order) with the words "The Law" or "Pentateuch". You could also have some sort of "decree" tablet stating that all idols are to be removed from the land. For Isaiah, I would make sure that his outfit was humble (we are told in Hebrews, I think, that the prophets of old wore sheep and goatskins). I'm not sure that he was ever in sackcloth, but that might be an easy material to get ahold of. I always think of dirty feet when I think of prophets, like they've been traveling across the land preaching God's words to the people. You might include some sort of writing with some of his prophesies about the coming Messiah, too, to indicate which prophet he is.
