We have finished our Bible Cirriculum for the year. It was stories and a coordinated picture to color. The kids are bored with it. We have done 60 stories and made a notebook out of them.
SO I am looking for something else. I would like something easy that we could use. Ideally I would like something with a Bible story to read on one day, and a few activities or something to do with them the other days. We school 3 days per week and I would like to have one lesson a week. Where we could tell the story one day, and do some sort of character building lesson relating to it another day, and a craft or something the last day. Anyone know of anything?? I also want it to be sorta laid out so I dont have to go through and pick alot out. I dont mind getting stuff ready for a craft, I just have limited time to get lesson plans ready. Thanks for your help. Jill

I'm so sorry. . .I'm not sure how old your kids are. . .but I'm assuming on the younger side. . .have you seen Let's Chat About the Bible? I use this for my 4yo. . .

The other thing I've done is gotten a few Christian/Sunday school craft books and then gone backwards. . .so we'd make the craft one day. . .read the story the next. . .and then pray/think about how it would apply to our lives. LOL I have a great 'edible' Bible craft one.

I am also looking for ideas. We used different activity books and Sunday school curriculum but it wore on us. So now I am also looking for new ideas.
    Thanks for starting the thread.

I use Alpha Omega for Bible...

    But there's www.akidsheart.com.

You could also read thru a book of the bible together and discuss/pray/memorize a section.

Like Proverbs. It might be "heavy" but you could break down and do a section from each chapter a day. Have each kid pick a verse that means something to them and memorize it, etc. Draw a picture, use it as their copy work, etc.

Also, Calvary Chapel has some free bible stuff online, I can't remember the website, gotta go digging. But i think if you google "Free Bible Lessons" it comes up on the first page some where. They have A TON of stuff for different age groups too.

    Just an idea :D

OH...there's also CEF Mailbox club where they mail you a letter/story thing each week (well, as you return one, they send a new one). After 7 in each series they send a gift. It's all free and lots of fun.

Just some ideas. Hope you find one! :D

OH...one year I picked the Fruits of the Sprit verse and we spent a week on each characteristic. (well, we were only doing school 3 days a week). We created a fruit of the spirit tree and each week when we finished, we put the new fruit on the tree.

    :)

We tried Alpha Omega Life Pacs Bible, but it did not work for us.

This year we are using BJUPress Bible Truths. It comes with a Full color Teachers Manual (Which is something "I" needed). And of course the student workbook, full color.

I felt that I needed the structure of a full program, when it came to bible studies. And the BJU Press curriculum, seems to work for us.

We also have switched over to nearly fully using BJU Press for our other subjects and so they incorporate the Bible and God in all of the lessons. So it ends up being pretty well rounded, in my opinion.

If you are able to work with the free stuff, please do. But I was REALLY not well educated in the ways of the bible, so I needed a primer. haha!

    Ok, off to fold clothes!
    Good luck!

I was planning on using BJU this year but chickened out.
I have heard positive reviews. I was worried about paying for it and then not using it after all.
    My friend's daughter loves it.

I personally like to "Kick the tires" ya know?

So, thankfully, we live near a homeschool store, where I can go and thumb through the pages. This also took a couple of months to decide upon. (It is in north Houston, for those in the area)

If you go to that website, bjupress... you have the ability to "Look inside" the books, just like on amazon.

Of course, that doesn't mean that it will be perfect for you, but it gives you the opportunity to kick the tires so to speak.

On the left, click a grade level, then let the page load.... then in the main right side window, choose a subject, then a particular item (Student workbook, teacher edition etc.) Then you can choose to Look Inside.... if available for that item.

The extras are NOT necessary to teach the lessons. But they are nice to have.

    The cost:
I felt I really wanted a bible curriculum, and I felt I really needed the teachers edition.. It was about $16 for the student workbooks each (I have twins) and I think $40 for the teacher edition. I plan to simply get a third workbook for my DD when the time comes.

I spent similar amounts for their grammar, reading, history and math... Although we chose to go with Saxon Math...... But everything else is bju press...

We are working on science ourselves, as DH and I are science fans and live at the library.

Really? Cool! So if we come to visit you, we ask at the main desk, and they'll point us to your abode? Do you live near the childrens section? How convenient for your kids!

that does not sound alike a bad price for bju books! WOW! I may look into that for ds10 next year, if they have Bible for 6th ( Yikes will he really be in sixth by then? waaaaaaa, I need a nother baby anyone wanna share? lol JUST KIDDING! I would love another young one though, I love the early years especially 2-3yrs. before I had a baby I wanted them to be born at that age hahah)
I think that reading through the Bible this year may be good enough because we have a Daily Reading Bible and it has stuff to think about etc, but kids sometimes learn better with pictures or stuff... does the kids book have stuff like that?

Man, I did a reading through the Bible thing with my kids, and found pages to go with it and set up a whole folder so they could check it off and write comments. But they don't have the website on them, so I don't know where I got them from!

We are clueless about baby sitter pay. We have as yet not used one. Dog and cat sitting, now that is another story. We tend to up and run off at the drop of the hat as a family for a 3 day weekend and use petsitters often and our petsitting is usually a barter for the same with another pet lover.

Amazingly my dh and I do the same things we did the 15 years before the kids came.
