Has anyone thought of doing this... have a bible study through an online meeting site like dimdim. A lady I know did this with her youth group this week and I sat in on it at home.. pretty cool. Just wondered if anyone else has done this and what do you think of it. :)

One of the things we'll have ready within the next few weeks is the ability for anyone to go to our website and create a discussion forum like this one. It wouldn't be a public and permanent forum like this, but a private and temporary one. A church, for example, could set up a forum and invite members only to sign up. Someone would create a discussion area, post the Sunday sermon or lesson notes there, and encourage church members to discuss. The following Sunday, someone could create a new discussion area, post the next sermon, and discussions could start there. Of course, discussions from the previous week could continue into the second week; there's no time limit. The goal would be to offer this capability for under a dollar a week. It may not be synchronous communication, but it would allow church members to participate in a study no matter where they are and when they have free time - even if, for example, they have moved away or are serving overseas. It would also allow local churches to share bible studies with sister churches or with churches in other countries.

It's not much more than an idea right now, so I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I think it's a fabulous idea. I've been looking for an online Bible study like this with no results. Sounds like it has real potential, and I bet a lot of people would be interested!

well, what she did is have a study already with power point, invited everyone to go to a site and gave us all the info to get in and then we had a meeting,(bible study) were she used power point and we had open online chat where we could comment... I had my audio on so I could talk if I wanted to and so forth... i was cool .... I wonder if any ladies would be instested in that or not. certian time every week with study...

Steve I like your idea also.... a contiued bible study each week sounds good, with comments and such.

The idea of an online bible study like my friend did is great, I give every one time to get together and study together, even if we are miles apart!

    I'd join it!!!

There are so many studies out there I have seen I would like to do - and I'm just not sure how to approach it all the time.

This is something I would be interested in - I have a really hard time making it to the different Bible studies we have at our church because of just not being able to leave the house when they are scheduled. I would like to join if you decide to get one going!

If you'd like to use an online meeting room (i.e., so everyone is together at the same time), I have a GoToMeeting room that allows up to 20 people. It's available to me 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so I don't mind at all if you'd like to use it sometimes. We'd just need to coordinate the times. Dimdim is a free alternative for small groups of people, but I've heard from others that it's not of the same quality as commercial products like GTM.

If you'd just like to hear one another as you study and don't want anything visual, I recommend freeconferencecall.com. We use this for our internal calls, because everyone on my team lives in a different location. You can even record the calls and make them available later to other people.

As for a temporary discussion forum like this one for online bible studies (maybe in conjunction with GoToMeeting once a week?), I hope to make this functionality available around the end of next month. You'd be welcome to use it free of charge because I'd value someone testing it. :) I'll keep you posted on this.

Send me a PM if you're interested in using the GoToMeeting room.

I and my wife use RHUB`s web conferencing appliance for online meetings and training. We were using DimDim but then we wanted something more secured; hence switched over to RHUB.
