I'd like to hear how other families do bible time/study/class in their homes. Right now DH reads with the kids before bed. He goes through a book of the bible from start to finish reading a chunk of verses each night and then asking questions afterward. I'm considering implementing bible time in our school day too but wonder if it will become too much. I'm wondering if I can use the S.O.A.P. method during the school day to double review the chunk of scripture that Jay read the night before. Thoughts? How do you do this subject?
No such thing as too much Bible time We start our day with 2 audio devotionals. Then Bible Study (in depth on their level). Then hubby does his own study with them before work most days (He works 5p-3a) Then we use the Bible as a tool through the day for other subjects, when they get in trouble I try to find a relevant Bible verse I have a few color coded and marked in a special Bible for that purpose. Something I'd like to do is "feed the body, feed the soul" Have a reading after each meal as a family. It doesn't have to be a whole chapter or anything....I've just never gotten around to implementing this... We also work on memory verses.... Also for young kids, it's easy to work in some cartoons and such for Bible concepts and stories. Smile of a Child can be streamed over your computer or a Roku box. YouTube has lots of options. We also mostly listen to Christian radio...many CCM songs directly relate (almost quote word for word) a Bible verse....so I often times use a song as a basis for our Bible study... All that and some days we miss the mark so bad we get no Bible time at all! LOL
Good question. I try to distinguish between Bible knowledge and theology. So I have them memorize this catechism of Bible names. http://elgg.puritanseminary.org/archives/762 http://elgg.puritanseminary.org/archives/764 Then I want them to memorize this catechism for theology: http://books.google.com/books?id=0O...AHl-oCwCQ&ved=0CDwQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q&f=false It's working out ok so far. It's a lot of memorization tho. For the younger kids, we just do Bible stories and have conversations.
