Ok, so I was wondering what version/translation of the Bible everyone uses. I have been doing a ton of personal Bible study lately (that's why I have been only lurking and not posting recently) and I would like to use another version as a comparison to the Bible I typically use (The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures). I have several different versions now that I refer to but I would like to have one that I can focus on that is the most commonly used. Who better to ask than this group! I listed the one that I have. Please let me know if you use something else!
NIV (New International Version) Is this version considered old news now? LOL I am surprised not to see it listed. Also the NAB (New American Bible) I've tried KJV but not an easy read. Here is a list of available bible versions.
I use NIV. My kids use NKJV for AWANA though. I wish our church did NIV but as a good So Bapt church...they don't I have about a zillion different versions in the house though.
Here goes a mouthful...The New Oxford Annotated Bible, New Revised Standard Version with the Apocrypha. That's my study one when I want good footnotes on translations and such. The Good News bible is what I'll use otherwise.
I have your "mouthful". We used it in my OT and NT Survey classes in college. I like it a lot too. Of course, I like to look at the various translations so that's why I posted that I have a "zillion".
I voted "Other" I wanted to be sure that I voted for The Authorized King James Version 1611. That one wasn't listed.
Amen! The only one you will ever need! I realize some find it a hard read...but it really isn't. Once you get used to it you will find the beauty. Even my 8 year old reads the KJV every night and day and has no problem understanding it. This is a subject close to my heart since in my home we only read the Authorized King James Version 1611.
I usually use the NIV but sometimes use KJV. Sometimes the words in the KJV have more UMPH, if you know what I mean. But, I do not think one is any better.
I use multiple translations when doing computer based bible study. I typically use the NAS for general reading. I never use the New World Translation.
My answer of "other" includes the NIV, The Amplified Bible, and The Message translation. I love them all.
Mostly NIV. But we do studies with the KJV as well. The KJV is more poetic and easier to memorize, IMHO! But other translations are good too.
Carl is partial to New King James. Rachael memorized for AWANAS in old King James this year. It was a little difficult, because she's always memorized NIV unti this year, and so she had to "re-learn" some of the verses. And they expect it to be word-perfect for quizzing. (I told her that when it comes to telling others about Christ, it won't matter if she leaves out the word "THE" in quoting verses! That's how picky they were!)
