I've been holding off on this because I have been focused on things with my dad, but I have a praise and prayer request... I'm pregnant!

We decided to trust that God would give us a child in His own perfect timing and were actually surprised it happened when it did. We had family staying with us over Christmas so our timing wasn't ideal but God made it work. ;) This was actually the first month since I stopped taking birth control that I was sure I was NOT pregnant.

We found out 3 days before my dad went in for his surgery, so things have been very stressful since day 1. I'm at a very crucial point in the pregnancy now where the chance of miscarriage is still high. I worry in the back of my mind, but I feel like everything will be okay.

We have already told just about everyone. It feels strange because I know a lot of people choose to wait until after the first trimester, but I'd rather have prayers for a healthy pregnancy than keep it a secret. Besides, we're tired of the "when are you going to have kids?" questions. :D

Try not to get too sressed out so that you and the baby will be healthy. Congratulations! Will your due date put you late September or October? I had three kids born in October (twins were premies and weren't due until late January). Any way, hope that you don't have to go through much morning sickness, and have a glowing good time instead.

The due date is mid-September. :)

I've been trying to take it easy. It's probably good that my dad is in St. Louis now because it was stressful to go to the hospital every day when he was here.

I'm so hungry all of the time, but I also have "all day and all night" sickness (AKA "morning" sickness). I also have to drink about 2x the water or I become dehydrated. And I'm absolutely exhausted. Hopefully all of these things mean the baby is growing and interacting with my body the way it's supposed to! :)

I was also always dehydrated, I complained to my doctor once why I had dry skin, he said it was because I didn't get enough water to drink, Try eating some crackers, ginger snaps or pepermint candies to help with the sickness.

WOW!!! I go hiking with another HSer once a month, and she told me today that she's due in September, too!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Try not to worry too much. Am praying God's blessing on you all!!! Be sure to drink plenty. You might want to try to eat four or five small meals, instead of three big ones. AND DON'T SKIP BREAKFAST!!! (Unless it makes you sick at first....)

My midwife told me to take my prenatal vitamins at bedtime. They can make you feel sick.
Force yourself to eat, even if only a few crackers.

And now you know why I say to look after you too ;)

Toast and crackers for the morning sickness (or if it gets really bad, there are meds that are safe for the baby).

Folic acid to help with the development of the baby (brain, etc) and Materna seems to be the common prenatal vitamin these days (and it was in the days when I was pregnant).

Good supports in your shoes (not so much right now, but when your belly begins to expand, you'll better understand why)

    And lots of TLC

Hang in there - praying for a healthy full term pregnancy

Congratulations Amanda! So happy for you. Hope this an easy pregnancy for you. Hopefully the morning sickness will subside after a few months. I also had it with my 2nd child. I had to get a chewable vanilla flavored prenatal vitamin because I just couldn't handle the regular ones.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!

My dr. prescribed a prenatal vitamin last September when I went off birth control. So I've been taking that for a while to make sure I have all the folic acid and other necessities. (My hair was growing like a weed!) I haven't had trouble with it making me sick, thankfully. I am someone who already eats more than 3 meals a day, so now I'm eating more 10! I eat just a few bites at a time all day long! I don't feel like I'm getting enough calories, but I'm trying. I force myself to eat something. There are some foods like carrots and apples that help me eat something more substantial. Yogurt is good too. And of course I have crackers by my bed so I can settle my stomach enough to drink water in the morning (when I'm soooo thirsty!)

My first appointment with the doctor is February 6, so I won't know anything until then! I had my blood drawn on Thursday.

I was borderline for gestational diabetes with Phillip, so they sent me to a nutritionist. I ate healthier then than any other time in my life, LOL! Be sure to eat plenty of protien. Yogurt, cottage cheese, regular cheese, grilled meats (chicken), peanut butter. I liked cottage cheese and fruit, but had to be careful with how much fruit I ate because of their sugar content.

I've always had problems with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) so I've learned how to eat the right balance of protein along the way. I'm finding it's worse since I've been pregnant. I had my hubby pick up some cottage cheese the other day since it's a quick protein source. Pre-pregnancy I would eat almonds or a cheese stick, but cottage cheese somehow sounds more appetizing now.

My dr does a glucose test for the gestational diabetes around 20 weeks I think. I don't want to do it because from what I've read I'll have to eat foods beforehand that I know will make me feel like crap. I guess I'll talk to the dr about that.

Well, hopefully that is all I will have to do. I may have been reading about the follow-up test where they make you eat high carbs for 3 days. If it's just one drink maybe I'll be okay. I can guarantee I won't end up with high blood sugar. The 3 hour test sounds like torture.

When I did my glucoie toelrance test while pregnant with Christian (some 14 years ago - YIKES), it tasted like the orange drink you got from McDonald's without the carbonated water to go with it - YUCK (and I had to do that twice - because the first results were not great)! By the time I was pregnant with Andrew, they added the carbonated water to it... not a great change but it wasn't as bad...

Congratulations Amanda! Prayers being said for a healthy pregnancy and baby! What a blessing! Thanks for sharing the news with us!

I had terrible "all-day" sickness with one of my pregnancies- I found taking some herbal tablets of peppermint and ginger helped, also upped my vitamin b.

    Keep us posted...
