Oh I just found it, (from a different cook book, it even has dono cookie ideas and they show for favores put them into dino egs (Easter eggs) you could draw spots on them. Then I think in the kids concoction book there is a recipe for making dino eggs that you hid a treasure in, (its made out of coffe grounds and stuff and it gets really hard)

Jackie... Christian's birthday is in January, Andrew's in February (boy was I ever off on the timing)... because we're just getting out of the Christmas season (and I admit to having gone to lengths in the past over Christmas shopping) we don't have many options for birthday parties... Noah's is in August...

Last year we went to the pool for Andrew's party (Christian's was a complete flop - not one of his school friends showed up  ). We paid for exclusive use of the pool for an hour and the price also included use of the community room for an hour (and we paid $75). It was fun but it isn't something we would do on a regular basis because by the time you get the cake, ice cream, hot dogs, and treat bags, it quickly became an expensive day.

How soon do you put up your Christmas tree? I wonder if having the boys decorate one for Philip would be an option? (Even a second small tree if you had the space).

    Here are some other ideas:
    • Because it's around Christmas time, you might consider asking children who come to the birthday party to bring a canned good or two to be donated to the local food bank (we had a young girl in our community do this - she asked her friends to bring canned goods instead of presents for her so she could give to the food bank - what an idea). Games could be something about sharing
    • I suppose it may be too early to go sledding (although who knows about that one - around here you might just be able to)
    • I wonder about doing up a gift box for a needy child (with inexpensive stuff in it) - kind of like the boxes we make up to send overseas at Christmas time. Again, games could be about sharing
    • What about stringing popcorn (or cranberries) for a Christmas tree?
    • Scavenger hunt
Boys love what we refer to as "swamp water" (a mixture of every kind of drink you have in the house - excluding milk of course). Sounds grouse (and it probably is) but it's a boy thing... For a cake, maybe a Christmas tree or something like that...

Make your pinata Egg shaped.. very easy Dinosaur egg..

Volcanno punch.. I saw a recipe for it somewhere... I'll hunt for it... It red punch and you do something with dry ice so it looks like it's erupting.

Dirt pudding for snack.. They can excavate for gummy dinosaurs or peanut m&m's "Dinosaur Eggs"

I think your pin the idea is cool :)

put dino stickers in balloons and do a "Hatch the dino egg" relay race... The kids get into teams and each get a balloon they run to the other side and sit on a balloon to "hatch it.. grab their dino sticker and run back before the next kid in line goes.

Egg and spoon race... I'd use boiled eggs to save the mess and you could draw lines on them to look like they are starting to hatch.

Use rocks for place settings.. Use a sharpie to write each kids name on it... For the Birthday kid he could have a bigger one, and have the guests sign it for a memento of the party.

Those big boxes i mentioned earlier would make a Great Cave (even Brown already!) Stick dinosaur Stickers on it or make "Caveman" drawings inside. Would be cool right at the front door so they enter the party by going through the cave.

Use paper taped to the floor for giant Dino footprints. Lead them to the Cake ot to whatever you wnat a focal point to be.

Make mini palm trees from paper towel rolls and green crepe paper.

Get mini dinosaur toys from the dollar store (I've seen big bags of them at Dollar tree for just $1 before) use them as party favors and decorations.

Do the thing where you try to drop something in the jar.. but use the bone shaped doggie treats... call them dinosaur bones.

For a craft the kids could make mini volcanos -- Make a mound of sand around a film canister( You can get these free if you just ask at a photo shop). Put in some baking soda. Pour in vinegar(colored red with food coloring) to watch it gurgle up.

use the little plastic dinosaurs and put them inside of playdough, shape the playdough like an egg. Bake it to harden.. then let the kids break them open to hatch their eggs.

There are cute invitations at http://birthdays.momsbreak.com/DinosaurBirthdayParty.htm

print out Dinosaur clipart.. on dino per page and have them laminated at a teacher store (Lamination is cheap) for placemats. Let the kids take them home as an additional party favor.

play dinosaur sounds as background noise (especially cool for the cave.. you can get them by renting Jurassic Park and tape recording the sounds...

http://www.fanstory.com/displaystory.jsp?id=49812 Suggestes a playdough volcano decoration ith palm trees. (I'm not sure I'd be up to making that!)

http://www.rain.org/~philfear/download-a-dinosaur.html <-- That site is REALLY COOL. It has paper dinosaurs to make. I'd have little paper dinos all over the place with that lol.

    LOL The Dinosaur Pokey http://www.mrsjones.org/songs/dinosaur.html

all kinds of stuff at http://www.mrsjones.org/themes/dinosaurs.html

Cool Fossils! http://www.makingfriends.com/dinofosl.htm make for decorations or a craft.

Oh can I come over. I think these parties sound so fun and my kids are missing them. LOL Don't you wish we all lived closer together? It would be so much fun. Dreaming here of the prefect homeschool community of all of us. LOL

We just all have to move to where there's no hurricanes, or earthquakes, or tornados, where there's mountains AND beaches, there's LOTS of snow in the winter but not too cold, lots of sun and swimming in the summer but not too hot, a beautiful fall with changing leaves..... OH!!! And homeschooling laws that basically say, "They're YOUR kids and YOUR responsibility. Do what you think is best....."

As soon as one of you find the place, let me know and we'll all move, LOL!
