    For grade 2 or 3

Pros and cons? Other than spiral vs mastery what's the differences. Anybody switch from one to another?

    Thanks.

I have only done R&S. One main reason I like it is because the Teacher books are very thorough and explain things well.....well at least 90 or more % of the time. They are better than any other program I've tried---though I haven't tried BJU.

We do it in a more laid back way. We do much of it orally, and my kids have learned SOOOOO much from it!I use the worksheets only when they're having difficulty with some point and need extra help. I do have them take the Chapter tests, so we can see if they learned from our oral work. They usually do fine. If they have a problem with something we just go over it in different ways until they get it, then move on.

Since we had troubles "connecting" with an English program, we needed to get the books a level or two behind the grade they're in, just to make sure they get the background and have a strong base! So don't be surprised if they can't comprehend their grade level book, just go bakc one or two levels, and they'll get it better and enjoy it more! It's so much more than many othe rprograms, that it's not like they're behind, it's that they're getting a great base to draw from in highschool and college!

I've heard BJU is very good too! Actually, my oldest ds used BJU curriculum in 10th grade, and it was good stuff! Hard, but good!

    Best wishes in your decision!

What Deena said. We use R&S 2nd and plan on it for 3rd. Most of it's oral and test to make sure we grasp it. DS has done so much better with R&S this year, last year was a secular book was lik epulling teeth to get anything out of him and he hated english. Now he asks for it.

    No experience with BJU, sorry.

BJUP is very thorough. We've used it since 1st grade. At these levels it's not too hard, but just very on the ball. The student book is colorful and nice to look at and the TE is easy to follow.

I have one who is using BJU for 3rd and it is working great for her. I tried BJU 2nd with the other dd and she hated it. It moved to fast for her she needs the mastery stuff instead of spiral. I have done R&S math and reading with her. I am anxiously awaiting our R&S Social studies and Science. We have found this a slower paced and easier to understand curriculum for her.
After reading this I am really going to try the english. Thanks

I have never used R&S, but I have used BobJones and like it for writing and grammar. I do not use the whole Language curriculum but I have liked what I have used.
