This is on the horizon....ds15 has an appt on Wed for the consultation exam.
Can any of you with any experience about this give me a ballpark on price? I think it goes by how long you have them, with most orthodontists anyway.

    Thanks

My dd Samantha is about to turn 12. Last month she got fitted with an expander. She needs braces and her mouth isn't big enough. So this is the phase before braces and it cost $1500. I was told the braces will probably cost $4000 additional. She will get braces sometime between September and December depending on how long she keeps the expander. They also told me she'd have to wear braces for 2 years probably.

We paid cash for the expander but my ex husband has to pay half of everything. He is paying dh and I $100 a month until all expenses are paid including braces. I just got my first payment a couple days ago.

From my experience it depends on how much work needs to be done.
My daughter didn't have any under or over bites and hers cost us around $2500.
My son has a pretty bad over bite and at our first consultation the estimate was over $6000. He would be in his the same length of time my daughter was (one year) but there needed to be more work done to accomplish the goal.

My daughter got hers off about 3 months ago. (She is 13) She had them on for two years and we had to pay 80.21 for the two years...Our INS. covered the rest. Not sure that helps at all.

Sd has her retainer now. The total was around $4000 for the braces and care not the pulling of the two teeth she need. Our dental insurance covered about $1500. She had the braces on for about 2 1/2 years and I am not sure how long she will have the retainer for, another year or so I think. We would never have been able to do this for her except for the fact that mil started a braces fund when she was born. That covered most of what we had to pay.

My DS has had his on for about a year now. It will cost us a little under $4,000 and he should have them for about 2 years give or take. If he has to have any other work done like tooth pulling etc, that will be extra.

We are getting a 5% cash discount. We don't have insurance for this so we are self-paying patients.

I hope the consultation goes well. Your Orthodontis will have a financial person that will discuss all of this with you as well as payment plans.

We just had a consultation last week. For 18-22 months of braces was just over $6200. I was given a discounted price of $5292, since we have no orthodontic insurance. (Which, BTW tells you that they are ripping us off to get more from the insurance companies.) That's with no extras- no teeth pulling, no expanders- just braces to correct spacing. This dentist required $1200 down and payments of $186/mo. drafted from a checking account for 22 months.

I have a friend in TN whose dd's cost $2500 including an expander and pulling 2 teeth. I think it depends somewhat on where you live.

We're going to have to hold off for a while. The money simply isn't there right now.

Crystal's were $5800 and we don't know about Emily's yet. She still has several baby teeth that have to come out first.

There is one here who has a flat fee of $4300.00. We are going to the other one to see how much he says. I am planning on shopping around. He has an adult tooth that needs to be pulled and the other tooth behind moved into it's place. I would rather him have braces to correct it than a bridge that will have to be replaced several times the rest of his life and put the other teeth around it at risk.
Thanks. I guess we are around the correct price.
I will let you know how things turn out.

My kids work was very minimal and only took about 9 months and they were around $1,400.00 each.

Maybe his will be minimal. My dh has perfect teeth naturally. I had so hoped my children would have his teeth and not mine.

Unforunately, here, it seems there is a large minimum price, no matter how extensive the work. My ds only need to correct spacing-very basic, but we were still quoted over $5000. I wish I could find someone to do them for $1400!!

Our quote was $4567. $143.00 a month. Plus we need to have one tooth pulled and 3 wisdom teeth by a oral surgeon. I think this is where part of our stimulus check will go. :( I really hate to put him through that, but I know what it looks like in the end.
I am going to check at another, but this one is no down payment and monthly payments - which would not be that bad.

What type of work do "you" feel your dc needs?

Our ortho said, "Well if you want perfect teeth I can take your first born for payment". I responded, "Well, no, we will shoot for straight teeth". So it cost us about $1400.00 each and they look perfect to me!

He has an adult tooth that needs to be pulled up into place instead of him having a bridge that will have to be replaced several times for the rest of his life. I thought the braces to move the one behind it into place was the better idea. He also has my high eye teeth. He would like them to look better.
My only question was the wisdom teeth. I did not have mine pulled and they came in after my braces and pushed my top teeth back together. I don't want to spend this money and have that happen to him too.
There will be so much to spend just to get ready for the braces. Cleaning and the pulled teeth. Money wise it will be hard until the payments for the actual braces start.
