Yes, but you really don't know if she was saying they were going to Hell. Last time I watched it they were unclear if she did or not, so take that part with a grain of salt.

So, it's ok to call someone a biggot of no one else can hear? For an adult to call another child a "stupid little biggot" and gossip it to another child on the bus is ok? No, not at all. The bus driver should have just reported the incident to the school. She went back to the house and took the children out of the house W/O the parents permission to do so, and lectured her. Is that her job to lecture others? No. Her job is driving the bus. Her job is to keep order w/o name calling and report behavior to the school.

I would picket in front of the school for her dissmissal. That is rediculous.

I agree with Meg. It is NOT a bus driver's job to tell a child what to believe or think. It isn't anyone's (except for parental influence). I mean, heck, isn't this a big reason why a lot of us homeschool?!

She didn't call the child a biggot to her face. She said it to another classmate. You know what that means? You bet that kid went around school telling everyone that the bus driver called so-and-so a stupid biggot...

Point is, this was WAY over the line.

I called people all kinds of names to their face and behind their back. Oh well.
I NEVER said that it was right what the bus driver did, I said it was wrong.
I don't agree with what the student did either.
Take the whole thing with a grain of salt with you are going to throw out what "might have been said" cause there is no proof that the bus driver took the kids from their home ( while they were inside).
Were they still walking home and she stopped them, were they in their home, were they at their door before they were inside? We don't know really only they do.

Like I said the whiole thing is wrong, but I can see where it got out of hand.

I can see both sides though and when you are pasionate about something you sometimes forget you are an adult.

I don't usually get into these discussions, but I do think the bus driver, no matter how passionate she may have been, made a bad choice in going back and talking to the girl. The bus driver has opened herself up to all kinds of problems that could have been avoided and probably should have been handled by the school not the bus driver. I am not excusing the girl for anything she said or did. That should have been handled by the school. Being the adult is not always easy but that is what being an adult is all about. I hope they work this out peacefully if they haven't already.

On the other hand, saying that you honestly believe someone will go to Hell for not living a Christian life is not, in and of itself, anything wrong. I mean.... I believe that (Yeah, I have no problem admitting it), so really, why was she wrong to express her own beliefs? (If, in fact, she said it at all)

I don't think this girl did anything wrong any more than a student who says "Gays should be allowed to marry" is doing anything wrong. Do I agree with them? No. But they are certainly entitled to express their non-violent beliefs.

Why not? If someone believes someone is going to Hell...why not say it? Who cares. If you don't believe in Hell then why does it matter anyway. I have very definite beliefs about salvation and I still have the right to speak freely. One who does not believe in Hell or think that they are going to hell need not be offended. If someone told me that I was going to hell because my hair is red of because I eat sushi, I would not care in the least. If someone told me I was a self righteous jerk because I don't condone gay marriage, I would not care. Whatever. the problem here is not freedom of speech...the problem is that a bus driver need not get involved or spew his or her personal beliefs on the job..and to minors. And if it were the opposite, I would still feel the same way.

First of all, I didn't realize this happened two years ago. That bothers me; it shouldn't be still going around like this.

Second, while I also understand the necessity of telling someone they're going to hell, I think that must be done at the prompting of the Spirit. I would guess that on the bus wasn't the place to say that.

Third, I was under the impression that the incident was NOT about telling someone they were going to hell, but saying that she wouldn't vote for Obama because he believed in gay rights and abortion.

Fourth, the bus driver asked the student straight out if the girl was harrassing him, and he said no. But the bus driver wouldn't let it go.

Fifth, the bus driver called the girl a "stupid biggot" to another child. Enough said there.

Six (and last), it was NOT her place to come back and pursue it. If she flt it needed more attention, she should have refered it to the principal to deal with. Yes, she has the right to deal with incidents on her bus, but there was no incident as far as I can tell.

The girl has denied saying anything about going to hell and they said that, when questioned, the bus driver admitted she made up that part. It's coming out now because the parents have filed a lawsuit and it's finally going to court. I don't really care WHAT excuses anybody comes up with, the bus driver was way out of line. Coming back to put the girls on an empty bus was not to prevent them from being embarrassed, it was to get rid of the witnesses and get a chance to shove her political beliefs at unaccompanied minors. She had completed her job with the girl and she had no business putting them back on that bus. I would be furious if something like this happened to my child. I don't care how passionate the bus driver is about gay rights, her job is to drive the bus, not berate kids for their religious beliefs.

    Wow...I wish I said that.

but I will say, that the Holy Spirit can prompt you at the oddest times and in the oddest places...so whose to say. Also, the girl was young...maybe immature and was just holding to her convictions. Often young people...and even older people...forget to discern the proper time.

From the way I understood it, NONE of the girl's comments were made on the bus. I could be wrong, but they way I understood the story was that the girl made the comment about Obama while at the school. The bus driver heard about what she said and made a big deal out of it. Like I said, I don't have a solid on this.

I thought it was said on the bus, but I could be wrong.

What I understood was that the bus driver heard other students talking about the girl's comment. Not that the comment itself was made on the bus. But I'll have to go back and watch it again later.... when DH isn't asleep on the couch with a migraine.

If that's true, the bus driver had no business "dealing" with it to begin with.

Didn't read the other responses but the bus driver was trying to indoctrinate these kids with her political views. Her job is to drive the bus. When she went back she really crossed the line. I would be pretty upset as a parent had someone did that to my children, she's nuts!

My honey is on the BOE and he said if that happened in his school district he would recommend terminating the bus driver.

Exactly, MamaBear. We are talking about the difference between an adult on the job and a kid talking to peers. Regardless of what was said...if it was the bus driver telling people they were going to Hell, it was wrong.

At my dh's work, an employee made insulting remarks about gay people. That employee was suspended. My Christian husband, who is not pro-gay in anyway..lol, had to take this action due to policy. It was inappropriate. In fact, if an employee cussed out a manager, that employee would get a letter...wait...even if an employee cussed out another employee, a letter would be given. There are standards at his work that are strictly enforced. That's adults dealing with other adults. Shouldn't the same standards be set for adults dealing with kids?

The bus driver also used her size and position of authority to intimidate these kids when she went back for another round of her vile diatribe. Ridiculous!

Ok-seriously-this bus driver should've been, ahem, "dismissed" that day. Like they would have trouble finding someone that needs a job.....

The worst part is, court or no court-what she did to this little girl cannot actually be reversed or made even a little better. Like this little girl isn't going to walk around with this on her now...and probably has for the last few years. It's unfortuante that court cases take so long to resolve that this is still "around" - can't even imagine how it's stillaround at this little girl's school or neighborhood.

I just don't get it-all these teacher/bus driver/principal problems....and I know good people that are dedicated, honorable, and truly care for kids that can't get jobs.

Everyday I say a little prayer of thanks that I am strong enough to hs, and stand up for my children in that small way....
