Mittens is gone and now my cat is spraying. It has been a really rough time and we only been in the house for two months. :( Our house is big, 1500 square feet and four bedrooms. I had hopes of inviting family and friends over for supper meals and having kids running thru the house. We talked of restarting the adoption process because we really like where we are at right now and all seemed great until 3 weeks ago when my cat decided to spray the outer walls in our living room!
Since the beginning of October, after my BIL/SIL and their 3 children left, my 4 year old cat started spraying/peeing the outside wall. We scrubbed, shampooed and she still did it. We replaced a section of the carpet. It was find for a few days and she went back to the same spot. So again we cleaned the area with a cat urine specific cleaner and put the cat box there. I thought all would be well.
Yesterday I took my husband to the airport (funeral) bought another cat tower and some cat toys. The cats seemed to be okay with this and they didn't seem edgy with each other as much. Then I wake up this morning and it smells like I just walked into the cat room in the shelter I use to volunteer at. I have just two cats!
The only space to be effected by my fur baby is in the living space. Now there are huge ceiling to floor windows with those icky vertical blinds and they are put up so you can still see in the house even shut. (love military housing).
I am moving my keyboard out of the space because I don't want it to smell like cat, I am moving the computer desk out of there. The only furniture in the space is my hutch and I cannot move it.
I don't know what to do. We do have the cat towers in the windows because we thought the cats would like that and they seem like it but many they shouldn't be near the windows and I should put them in the now unusable space cuz of smell?
Re-homing isn't something I want to do. I has one cat since it was a kitten and the other was my rescue from our last duty station. It's my kitten one causing issues. The only think left is going to vet which we haven't found one. Everyone we talk to about who they go to is different. Plus I just spent over $1500 this month on the cats and flying my husband for a family funeral. I guess what is anther few hundred on a credit card if it gets my cat or cats healthy.
